1,000 Points to Success at Southside High School
In a remarkable feat that speaks volumes about talent, dedication, and teamwork, two students from Southside High School have achieved the impressive milestone of scoring 1,000 points each in high school basketball. The two standout 11th-grade students, Gabriela Galvan and Jeffry Wilson, both point guards, have demonstrated exceptional talent, relentless dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their craft on the basketball court.
On December 19, 2023, at precisely 7:41 pm, Gabriela Galvan achieved her 1,000-point goal while competing against the Southsan Bobcats. Jeffry Wilson accomplished his milestone on December 18, 2023, at 7:01 pm against the Boerne Greyhounds.
Reflecting on the journey, Galvan said, “I set the 1,000-point goal in my freshman year and it is a dream come true. The formula to achieving this goal is working hard. It’s a testament to the unwavering support of my teammates, coaches, and the Southside community because they’ve helped me reach this goal.”
Similarly, Wilson expresses gratitude: “This achievement is not just about me. It’s a big win for the Southside community. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my brothers on the team and my coaches. I needed them to achieve this goal.”
Southside ISD takes great pride in these accomplishments. Their journey to 1,000 points exemplifies the spirit of excellence and collaboration that defines our community.

Student “Charges” Ahead with Solar Energy
(San Antonio, TX) – Southside High School is one of the first in the city, if not the state, to have a Solar Canopy and Table. The inconspicuous table is located in the courtyard near the gym, and it is more than it seems. “This is awesome,” said Nadine Solis, a sophomore who applied for a grant last year as a Freshman. Solis won the more than $8,000 grant that allowed the high school to purchase this solar-powered charging station. It literally uses solar power to charge phones, tablets, and computers. This is a result of a grant from the San Antonio Scholar Eco Grant through the city, and it was inspired by teacher Ms. Alexis Flores. “I encouraged several students to write grants, and we have six others that also won; each of them is different and exciting.” As the other grants are awarded, the district will post on the website; for now, everyone is basking in the solar-powered glow of success and getting charged for a fun Spring semester.
A special thanks goes out to the SISD Maintenance Department, Johnny Flores, and his team for putting the table and canopy together.
