Two outstanding seniors from Southside High School, Alexa Celestino and Carlos Herrera, were selected to deliver Tomás Talks at the 2024 Mexican American School Boards Association (MASBA) Conference!

Both Alexa and Carlos have been recognized for their powerful speeches on the impact of student voices. Their commitment to advocacy and leadership is truly inspiring, and their talks are set to shine a light on the importance of student perspectives.

As dedicated members of the Student Council and UIL Academics, Alexa and Carlos have played crucial roles in various school groups, demonstrating their passion for making sure every student’s voice is heard. With graduation on the horizon, they’re especially motivated to make a difference and leave a lasting legacy.

Both students spoke out about the power of student voices. In front of administrators from all over the country, they talked about their experiences at Southside ISD and their work as Student Council members. The two of them stressed the importance of empowering students to be their own advocates, and both students received standing ovations at the end of their speeches.

This weekend, the Southside High School Drumline performed at the Tobin Center for the annual Romancing with the Stars Charity Gala. These hard-working students were guests of honor and participated in a drumline battle against Brandeis High School and Sam Houston High School.

Congratulations to Kayla Martinez! Today marks a significant milestone as she officially signs with Our Lady of the Lake University to embark on her soccer journey. Wishing her all the best as she takes this exciting step forward!

Students from Southside High School’s Jumbotron Crew were invited by Justin Calderon, a Photojournalist and Editor from KENS5 to be part of a live segment of Great Day SA. This unique opportunity not only placed them in the spotlight as part of the live audience but also provided an invaluable behind-the-scenes look into the world of live broadcasting.

Picture this: these high school, excited-to-learn students step into the studio, and bam!—they’re in the world of live TV, where every second counts. They got front-row seats to all the action, from the hosts’ antics to the show-stopping segments, giving them a taste of media magic.

The Jumbotron students were given the star treatment and were able to rub elbows with the whole crew, firing off questions and getting in on the action. This wasn’t just any field trip, It was a peek behind the curtain. Back at school, students were buzzing with gratitude for the chance to dive into their potential future careers.
