Two outstanding seniors from Southside High School, Alexa Celestino and Carlos Herrera, were selected to deliver Tomás Talks at the 2024 Mexican American School Boards Association (MASBA) Conference!
Both Alexa and Carlos have been recognized for their powerful speeches on the impact of student voices. Their commitment to advocacy and leadership is truly inspiring, and their talks are set to shine a light on the importance of student perspectives.
As dedicated members of the Student Council and UIL Academics, Alexa and Carlos have played crucial roles in various school groups, demonstrating their passion for making sure every student’s voice is heard. With graduation on the horizon, they’re especially motivated to make a difference and leave a lasting legacy.
Both students spoke out about the power of student voices. In front of administrators from all over the country, they talked about their experiences at Southside ISD and their work as Student Council members. The two of them stressed the importance of empowering students to be their own advocates, and both students received standing ovations at the end of their speeches.
