On Thursday, Southside High School held its annual Athletic Banquet, honoring all SHS athletes for their commitment, teamwork, and achievements throughout the year. It was a memorable evening of celebration and recognition.

Students from Southside High School’s Jumbotron Crew recently had the incredible opportunity to step behind the scenes of San Antonio’s top newsrooms—WOAI/KABB TV. As part of an exclusive media experience, the students toured the station, met the news team, and engaged in a dynamic Q&A session with the professionals who bring the news to life.
The highlight of the visit came when the students witnessed the 11 a.m. live newscast on FOX SA and stayed to experience the noon broadcast on News 4 San Antonio. It was an unforgettable opportunity to see live television production up close and learn directly from industry experts.

Opportunities like this inspire the next generation of media professionals here at Southside ISD!
Congratulations to Caleb Smith of Southside High School, who earned 1st place in Editorial Writing at the UIL Regional Meet at UTSA, becoming Southside’s first UIL All-State qualifier in nearly a decade.
He also placed as an alternate in Headline Writing, under the guidance of his coach, Donna Martinez. Caleb will go on to represent Southside at the UIL State Meet on May 19–20 at the University of Texas at Austin.
