Southside High School UIL One Act Play Team Advances to District Contest

Congratulations to Mr. Robinson, Ms. Samantha Lopez, and the High School UIL One Act Team on advancing to the UIL District 28-5A Zone A Contest.  This achievement reflects the team’s dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

We also commend the students who received individual recognitions for their outstanding contributions. Excellent job to all involved in this remarkable accomplishment!

Southside High School Football Players Earn All State Honors

Juan Alanis, a junior, and Maddux Salazar, a senior at Southside High School, have been named to the 2026 Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5A All State Football Team.

Juan was selected as a Defensive Lineman, and Maddux earned recognition as a Fullback and Tight End. This honor reflects their hard work, dedication, and outstanding performance on the field.

Congratulations to both student athletes on this well deserved achievement.

SHS Choir Shines at UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest With Student Advancing to State

Congratulations to the choir students from Southside High School for their outstanding performance at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Solo & Ensemble Contest. Their hard work and dedication resulted in a very successful showing.

We would also like to recognize Mr. Ahumada, SHS Choir Director, for his continued leadership and commitment to student excellence.

Special congratulations to Zennel Lopez for earning the honor of advancing to the state competition. We are proud of your achievement and wish you the best of luck at state!

Southside High School Cardinal Cheer Team Wins Bravo Spirit Alamo Championship

Congratulations to the Cardinal cheer competition team from Southside High School. They competed this weekend at the Bravo Spirit Alamo Championship in Universal City, Texas, and earned 1st Place in the Small Varsity CoEd Intermediate Crowd Leading division, bringing home championship rings, medals, and a banner.
Special congratulations to sophomore Aidan Huizar for receiving the prestigious Cheer Star Award for outstanding individual performance.
We are proud of your hard work, dedication, and Southside spirit!

SHS Colorguard Earns Second Place at the TECA Wagner Thunderbird Invitational

This past weekend, February 7th, the Southside High School Colorguard, under the direction of Mr. Jonathan Romero-Vasquez, competed at the TECA Wagner Thunderbird Invitational and delivered an outstanding performance.

Out of fifteen schools in their division, the SHS Colorguard earned an impressive Second Place finish. Their dedication, discipline, and countless hours of hard work were on full display as they represented Southside with excellence and pride.

The journey continues! The next competition takes place on March 7 in Seguin, as the SHS Colorguard advances toward the state championships at the end of March.

Southside High School Welding Students Qualify for State at SkillsUSA

This past Thursday and Friday, January 29th & 30th, the Southside High School welding students competed in their first SkillsUSA contest of the year under the Job Exhibits – BBQ Pits category.
Four Southside students qualified for STATE with an incredible score of 195 out of 200!
Joel Barbosa – 12th
Juan Rodriguez – 12th
Jacob Vasquez – 12th
Felipe Segura – 12th
Welding technical skills contests were also held, including Welding Applications, Welding I, Welding, and Team Fabrication (results pending).
We are so proud of their hard work and dedication. Great job, Cardinals!
