Fast, Fierce, and Focused: Cardinals Dominate the Track

Coach Selena Ramirez and the Southside High School Track & Field team wrapped up an incredible season, showcasing strength, speed, and dedication! A total of 11 student-athletes advanced to the Area meet, with 6 continuing on to compete at Regionals. Their hard work, determination, and Cardinal pride were on full display all season long—congratulations to our athletes and coaches for a job well done!

Emarld Aguirre: Southside Freshman Claims Athlete of the Week After Sweeping District Titles

Congratulations to Southside High School freshman Emarald Aguirre for being named the San Antonio Express-News Athlete of the Week! Emarald delivered an outstanding performance at the District 27/28-5A Area Championships, claiming first place in all three of her events: the 800-meter run (2:22.68), the 1,600-meter run (5:27.10), and the 3,200-meter run (11:40.18). An incredible achievement—way to go, Emarald!

Several standout athletes are advancing to 5A Regionals next week:

  • Emarald Aguirre – 3200m, 800m, 1600m

  • Adalyn Castillo – 100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles

  • Sima Daniel – High Jump

  • 4×400 Relay Team – Abcde Villarreal, Serenity Williams, Diaavionce Irvin, Jayden Quiroga

From Teammates to Rivals: Southside Athletes Sign with Competing D2 Colleges

Two Southside High School athletes and longtime teammates, Jacob Salinas and Noah Salazar, are taking their talents to the next level! Salinas signed with Peru State College, while Salazar committed to Missouri Valley College—both D2 (Division II) colleges in the same conference. After years of standing together as teammates, they will now face off as competitors on the field. Congratulations to these outstanding athletes on their hard work and dedication. The Southside community is proud of you both!

Southside High Seniors Shine at Texas State Powerlifting Competition

Southside Women Powerlifters Excel at Region 5 Meet

Four standout athletes from Southside High School—Alyssa Espinoza, Zoe Amador, Penelope Tirado, and Lorena Rosales—earned spots at the Region 5 Powerlifting Meet in Edinburg on Wednesday, February 26. At the competition, two of the athletes achieved top finishes, and three earned qualifications to compete at the State Powerlifting Meet on March 15 in Edinburg. Penelope Tirado secured 4th place in her class, while Lorena Rosales claimed 3rd. Additionally, Zoe Amador qualified for the prestigious State meet. Congratulations to these exceptional athletes!
