Southside High School social studies students participated in the Youth Voter Fest at Trinity University on Friday, September 27th This event, hosted by “Youth Do Vote” and Heather Eichling, offered students valuable opportunities to engage with local governance. During the festival, students met with city council members and representatives from various non-partisan organizations, and they interacted with a mock voting system. They also had the chance to register to vote if eligible and learned about the importance of civic engagement in their community. Notable attendees included Judge Peter Sakai, San Antonio City Council members, and State Senator Jose Menendez, who engaged in insightful discussions about pressing community issues with our students. This event is part of the ongoing extended learning opportunities provided by the SHS Social Studies department, designed to foster direct interactions between students and the institutions and individuals shaping our community.
