The Southside High School Powerlifting Team capped off an incredible season with a standout performance at the THSPA State Meet in Abilene this past weekend!

Leading the way, Jeffrey Rodriguez-Funez delivered an unforgettable performance, earning 3rd place in the 5A Division I Meet and breaking the bench press record with an incredible 380-pound lift!
This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire program. Earlier this season, several athletes competed at the regional level:

Take the next step toward your future at the Accessing the Dream Expo, where students and families gain the tools and knowledge to turn college aspirations into reality. The Expo is thoughtfully designed for 9th–11th grade students and one parent/guardian, offering practical, step-by-step guidance that complements the college readiness efforts already taking place on your campus. This event aims to strengthen those efforts by increasing early exposure to the college admissions process, building financial aid literacy, and highlighting system-wide opportunities within the Texas A&M University System.

On Saturday, March 28, Southside High School UIL Academic teams competed at MacArthur High School in the district meet. After months of dedication and hard work, our students delivered an outstanding performance. We are incredibly proud of their commitment and the support from our amazing coaches!
We are proud to announce that Southside High School earned 1st Place Overall in the UIL Academic Sweepstakes, securing back-to-back district championships (2025 & 2026), while also capturing 5 first-place team titles and 11 individual first-place finishes!
A huge congratulations to all of our students who competed and represented Southside with excellence! Your hard work truly paid off.

Southside ISD proudly celebrates Chef Angel Machado and our talented High School Culinary Arts students for their outstanding achievement at the 2026 Paella Challenge! Competing against 17 high schools and more than 155 students, the team earned an impressive 3rd place finish with their creative and flavorful Korean BBQ Paella paired with a refreshing Watermelon-Lemon Refresher.
After claiming back-to-back 1st place titles in previous years, this continued success speaks volumes about their consistency, innovation, and passion for the culinary arts. Their ability to blend bold flavors with technical skill truly sets them apart.
