On a Friday night, the 5th grade teachers from Heritage Elementary treated their students and parents to a night of fun, friendship, and yummy pizza! The students have worked so hard preparing for the three STAAR tests all 5th graders must take so this was just a way for the teachers to show their appreciation for their students and their families.

Texas Mobile STEM Lab to Visit Heritage
From April 5th through the 7th, the Texas Mobile STEM Lab will be on our campus. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes will rotate through the buslike lab during the school days. But on April 6th, Heritage families are invited to join us from 4:30-6:45pm to enjoy the lab, create a lava lamp, and have a virtual reality experience. Families will also participate in a design challenge, rotate through STEM activity booths, and have the opportunity to buy snacks/drinks from PTO or raspas from the KONA Ice Truck. It has been a long time since we have shared an evening together, and the staff is really looking forward to sharing this time with our students and their families.
Heritage Learning is Heading Outside
There are two exciting things happening outside our doors. First, ground has been leveled and prepared for our very own greenhouse. Having this will allow our students to grow and observe plants all year. With the big focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Education, this is really a wonderful opportunity for our students! Secondly, Ms. Cerda’s 1st grade class has taken it upon themselves to not only learn about plants, but to help beautify our campus. They planted a few different kinds of plants and kept them in the front hallway windows of the school until things warmed up a bit. Now the lovely potted plants line the entrance to our school out front. Beautifully done!
Introducing the Stupendous Specials Team
This month we’re introducing the Specials Team which is led by a former classroom teacher, the art teacher, Ms. Cheryl Kindred. Our music teacher is Mrs. Alice Ramirez, while our coaches are Coach George Perez and Coach Claudia Herrera. The library is run by Mrs. Maria Alviar and our computer lab teacher is Mrs. Lena Melendez. This talented group has been supporting and expanding the learning for our students by incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) lessons into their already existing curriculum. It is in their classrooms where students often make sense of the concepts being taught in their general education homeroom classes. Pictured from left to right are Perez, Herrera, Kindred, Ramirez, Alviar, and Melendez.
Heritage Recognized Black History Month
February is Black History Month and Heritage staff and students showcased it in many ways. Each day in February a student read about an influential black person in history during the morning announcements. Many books were read, musicians were studied, and art was based on black artists. Classes created large banners of black figures in history, while staff created several displays honoring historical people of color. We love that we live and go to school in such a diverse community!
