May 2, 2023 by cherylk

Have you ever wondered how our students are able to have such awesome FIELD TRIPS?!? Well, it’s because of your support with our fundraisers. We have several fun events planned in May…5th Grade Field Trip to the Texas State Aquarium and the beach, Fun Days, and Field Days to name a few. We are offering another family fun event this Friday, May 5th. It’s the CINCO DE MAYO DANCE from 5-7pm. ALL children are free (no matter the age) and adults are $5 each. Any child that comes dressed in festive attire will receive a prize. If you can’t attend, you can still help out with a donation…just send it in marked PTO Dance DONATION. Overnight Field Trip for Some Lucky 5th Graders

February 14, 2023 by cherylk

On February 9 some of our 5th grade students joined other Southside students for a Science Field Trip to Baumberger Ranch Nature Preserve in Johnson City, Texas.  The program is called the Natural Conservation Experience.  The purpose of the program is to give students a hands on experience to learn about preserving nature, understand ecosystems, learn about the geographic timeline, and how sedimentary rocks are formed.  In the Ecology classroom students learned about different soil types and their ability to retain water and effectiveness.  Other things students experienced were how to measure the health of a pond ecosystem, astronomy, the Edwards Aquifer and limestone, natural springs, fossil collecting, and skulls.  They even played a game called “Oh dear, oh dear”, a habitat game.  For more pictures, visit our Heritage Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SISDHeritageElem
