Cardinal Spotlight 4/10/2024
A very quiet young man with a great sense of humor, David Plascencia is a wonderful 2nd grader at Heritage Elementary. He enjoys being a big brother to 5 year old Davin, but prefers not sharing campuses. Still, he has fun with his brother and his family, especially when playing board games. In addition to his family, David has fun with his two chihuahuas, Princess and Bacon. Otherwise, he is a fan of movies, either funny or scary, and various games on his tablet. His favorite class is STEAM where he learns about things he has never seen before and gets to try different hands-on activities. Recess, PE, dismissal and lunch are his favorite parts of the school day. Those are the times he doesn’t have to be as quiet, sitting in uncomfortable chairs, listening to someone talk. He really wishes classrooms had more plushies to sit on. David thinks it might make sitting easier. Although one would never know it, he can be very loud, but only at home because he doesn’t want to get in trouble at school.
This week Heritage is spotlighting our hardworking instructional paraprofessionals! This group of amazing ladies goes above and beyond to support the Heritage students and teachers. Patient and positive are just two words that describe these amazing ladies. They are quiet workhorses who put the needs’ of the students first. Our campus would not run smoothly without their support and dedication. We truly do appreciate all that they do! |

Solar Eclipse
We are so excited about Monday’s Solar Eclipse! The district has purchased safety glasses for all students and staff. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Only students with a SIGNED PAPER PERMISSION FORM will be allowed outside to view the eclipse. A verbal “Okay” or text message to the teacher will not be enough. You must send the signed permission form back by Monday so your child can participate. If you’ve misplaced your form, please call or text your child’s teacher so another one can be sent home today. Thank you for understanding. This is very exciting, but our students’ safety is a top priority.
Texas Heritage Night 3/7/24 5-7pm

There will also be art and projects displayed and PTO will be selling food. See you there! (Friendly Reminder…no purses or bags allowed and all will have to show an ID and go through the Raptor system).
Guest Readers Visit
In honor of Read Across America week, our students are being treated to “Guest Readers.” Today Superintendent Rolando Ramirez and the Coordinator of Assessment and Evaluation, Cyndie Wineland, visited. Mr. Ramirez read The World Needs Your Voice to Ms. Anguiano’s 1st grade class and Ms. Wineland read Where Oliver Fits to Ms. Hrncir’s 3rd grade class. Thank you for making today extra special and sharing your love of reading!

A very social and friendly student originally from Eagle Pass, Devin Arispe is an engaging third grader who joined Heritage in 2023. The only things he loves more than Math is recess and Ms. Tapia. Bright and articulate, it is obvious that he also loves learning. Because he is very responsible, Devin makes sure he does his homework and chores before watching his favorite show, Naruto, or playing his favorite game, Super Smash Bros. His chores include washing dishes, cleaning his room, and taking out the trash, but he really looks forward to caring for his 5 dogs: a Great Dane, three miniature poodles, and one to be determined pupper. Devin describes himself as “chatty…sometimes. When asked what he will be when he grows up, Devin might be the president, “…maybe…”
This week’s staff spotlight is Estrella Melendez. Ms. Melendez is new to Heritage. She is one of our Special Education paraprofessionals. Ms. Melendez is a recent graduate of Southside High School, class of 2022. She started working at Heritage in September. She loves working with children. Ms. Melendez has dreams of becoming a teacher and has plans to attend college in the near future to major in education! She is the oldest of four children and spends lots of her free time helping her three younger siblings. Ms. Melendez has a kind heart for animals too. She loves cats and would love to rescue every cat she sees! We are so happy that you are a part of the Heritage family! |
