Students and their families had the best time at the Southside Lighting of the S and Parade. Our 4th and 5th grade soccer players and our Cheer Squad were featured in the parade.
The Heritage Staff Spotlight is a new member of our team, Ms. Esmeralda Saucedo Guerrero. She is one of the 2nd grade Dual Language teachers. With 23 years of experience, we are so lucky to have her at our school. She drives very far, but says it’s all worth it because she looks forward to her days with her students. Ms. Guerrero says we have the best students! It’s probably because we have such awesome teachers like Ms. Guerrero. Whenever you see her, she is smiling and saying hello. Her students love that she works hard to be sure they learn all they need to know. Congratulations Ms. Guerrero!
Heritage staff members take part in annual trainings in order to keep our students safe. Here they attended a follow up, in person training, to their on line training titled “Stop the Bleed”. Staff members practiced what they would do if a student or staff member was injured and bleeding. They learned the “ABC’s” of bleeding, how to pack a wound, and how to use a tourniquet.
This week’s Staff Spotlight is our LID teacher, Ms. Margaret Puyat. She is new to Heritage this year, but has been a part of the Southside family for five years. Ms. Puyat is a soft spoken, kind-hearted individual and her students immediately bonded with her. During the days she can be spotted in the hallways with her students, and her affection for them is evident as she guides them through doors and “traffic”. We are so happy that you joined our team! Congratulations on being our Cardinal of the week!
Jonathan Cortez is a happy, active 2nd grade student new to Heritage this year. He loves video games, especially Minecraft, scary movies like Dracula, and spaghetti without meatballs. At school, he looks forward to art class as well as playing on the monkey bars. His kind heart is evident when he talks about his brother, his sister, and his dogs. It is also shown in his willingness to welcome others. Just last Friday, he saw a new student nervous on his first day. Jonathan quickly invited him to sit and to join in a game. With a ready smile and a lot of positive energy, he is a fantastic and kind addition to the Heritage community. We are so glad he is here!
Heritage students led a remembrance ceremony commemorating the events of 9/11 along with thanking 1st responders for their continued service. The event included the Pledge to the American flag (and then students continued with the Texas Pledge and our own Heritage Pledge), a moment of silence, and singing a song titled, “We Remember”. Afterward, students were able to meet the 1st responders up close and see their vehicles. We want to also say a special thank you to the Southside ISD officers that work to keep our campus safe. Again, thank you to all for joining us this morning.
Heritage students and staff are thankful for our amazing substitute teachers! You are all appreciated!
