This month, September 15th through October 15th, Southside ISD is excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout this month at the district, we will explore and recognize the history of our students, staff, and teachers of Hispanic heritage. This is a rich opportunity for the district to honor Hispanic culture and appreciate our culturally diverse community.
September 6-10 is National Substitute Appreciation Week so we wanted to take a minute to recognize two of the best! Heritage is lucky enough to have two ladies that always say, “Yes,” when asked to work. Mrs. Cruz and Mrs. Reyes have been members of our team for years. Both of them are able to work in monolingual classes as well as dual language classes. They are flexible and reliable and we appreciate them. During this COVID cautious time, they still come in and work; without them, classes would have to be split amongst other teachers and their already full classes. Thank you ladies for being true professionals and for always showing up!
Our school theme this year is “Team Heritage”. It was chosen since the 2021 Summer Olympics just ended and the 2022 Winter Olympics will take place in February of this school year. Students are learning about what it takes to be part of a team and that what matters most is how you play the game, not if you win. The Specials Teachers (PE, Art, and Music) have been using this theme to incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) into their lessons. In art class, students showcased one of the Principles of Design; movement. These pictures are samples of Olympic athlete art from 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades.
