Thirty of our 5th graders attended a three day, two night Field Trip to Bamberger Ranch Preserve in Johnson City. This was an amazing learning opportunity and the students thoroughly enjoyed it! These memories will last a lifetime!

Although she is new to our school, she has jumped right in and acts like she’s been a Cardinal forever! ❤️🖤 Her dedication, positive attitude, and genuine care for her students have already made such an impact.

At Southside ISD, we believe continued progress depends on a strong partnership among our Board of Trustees, Superintendent, staff, families, and community. As part of our commitment to Lone Star Governance, we want our community to understand the commitments that guide the work of the Board and Superintendent. These constraints provide clear expectations and help keep our focus on student success, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Board Constraints
• Board members, individually or collectively, shall not direct staff about operational matters.
• Board members shall come prepared to engage in Board work.
Superintendent Constraints
• The Superintendent will not allow any campus to have a D or F state rating.
• The Superintendent shall not allow high-needs campuses to have inequitable access to experienced and effective staff.
These commitments promote clear roles, transparency, and accountability. Most importantly, they help ensure that our decisions remain focused on providing every Southside ISD student with the opportunity to succeed. Our progress is a shared responsibility. Together, we will continue moving Southside ISD forward.
Students were so happy to honor their grandparents with a parade in their honor. They had also made cards, posters, and banners and then they sang a special song in English and in Spanish.
Heritage Student Leaders and Patrols led the annual Patriot Day Ceremony where First Responders were recognized and thanked for their service. Students also remembered those that lost their lives 25 years ago on 9/11/2001. We sang a song, said Pledges, and had a moment of silence.
Heritage Elementary is excited to announce 5th grader Elena Rodriguez as this week’s Cardinal Spotlight! Elena is new to Southside ISD, joining us from Northside ISD’s Adams Hill Elementary. She walks the halls with a smile and says that her experience at Heritage has been great so far.
“Everything is easy to find, and everything is close by,” Elena shared with a smile.
One of Elena’s favorite things about Heritage is her teacher, Mrs Varela. She says she loves her because she is kind and caring and always makes her feel welcome.
Outside of school, Elena enjoys playing soccer in her free time. “Soccer helps me exercise and spend time with my friends!”
Elena has already been a wonderful addition to our Heritage Cardinals family. We are so happy to have you here with us this year, Elena! Keep shining! ❤️
Since joining Heritage Elementary, Ms. Rachel Olivarri has hit the ground running! As our new school counselor, she has jumped right into providing guidance lessons, connecting students with community support, and, most importantly, getting to know the students who make Heritage special.
This year marks Ms. Olivarri’s 15th year in education. Her experience spans elementary, middle, and high school, strengthening her passion for helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Ms. Olivarri is a proud dog mom to eight dogs, loves her coffee, enjoys healthy snacks, and loves unwinding with the latest Netflix series!
We are so happy to have Ms. Olivarri on our Heritage team and look forward to all the wonderful ways she will support our Cardinals this year!
