Every Monday while our 4th & 5th grade Little Cardinal Athletes practice during their Specials time, the rest of the students enjoy a STEAM Project. This month they worked in small groups to create a flying machine, either two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Such creative students!

STEAM Event – Hour of Coding at Heritage
All Heritage students began participating in an “Hour of Code” last week. They will continue this week. The official Hour of Code day this year fell on Sunday, Dec. 12. It began as a way to demystify coding and now it is a world wide event. Students enjoyed creating code during their Computer Lab and Library times.
A New Autumn Tradition at Heritage
On the Friday before Thanksgiving break, November 19, all of our students took part in a special Thanksgiving Field Day. Each grade level went to the gym during their Specials time. Students chose one of three events to compete in; Tape the Cowboy Hat on the Turkey, Three Legged Turkey Trot, or the Turkey Sack Race. They cheered each other on as they all participated. Next they worked together in a Tug of War against the other classes on their grade level. Their teachers weren’t left out of the fun, many of them took part in a Turkey Relay race ending with some pie in the face. Students earned ribbons, but more than that they had fun while showing good sportsmanship. We can’t wait to do this again next year!
Introducing the 2nd Grade Team
This month we’d like to introduce our dynamic 2nd Grade team of teachers. The team is led by Michelle Bennett, with more than 20 years of teaching experience right here at Heritage. The two Dual Language teachers are Sanjuana Dolph and Carlos Albornoz. Rounding out the team are two teachers that are new to Heritage, Dena Jennings and Julie Collard. Together, this group of five is a strong team dedicated to working with their students to fill in any gaps from the “Covid” year and to prepare them for 3rd Grade and STAAR testing. Great job Fabulous Five!

Family Turkey Decorating Contest a Success!
This year Heritage brought back their annual Family Turkey Decorating Contest. A total of 316 posters were decorated by our students and their families; that’s almost 75% of our enrollment. Students in all grades participated and were excited to see what new turkey would be hung next. Classes took a turkey stroll through school to judge the winner of the “Student Choice” award while district administrators visited and judged the other winners. We want to say that we are so thankful for our PTO that traced all these turkeys and managed the contest along with all our families and their commitment to our school and students. It is all of you that made this such a fun experience for all; we are all winners because of it.
