SHS would like to nominate the following three ladies for their hard work and dedication to feeding our Cardinal community. This amazing crew arrive to campus in the early morning, prepare meals and provide curbside service, rain or shine, to ensure that our students are receiving nutritious meals all summer long. Thank you ladies, and to our entire cafeteria crew, for your dedication and hard work.
Emma is an ECHS junior and is currently enrolled in 2 summer school courses. She has been working diligently every day and is already more than halfway done with completing both of her courses. She is dedicated to earning these 2 credits so that she can continue to take JROTC, Theatre Arts and Culinary Arts her senior year.

Cardinal Spotlight – Week of June 19: Southside High School
Nephtali Valdez serves as a teacher in our CTE program as our A/V Production and Animation teacher at the high school. Mr. Valdez has spent much of his time recently to help our virtual athletics award ceremony and virtual graduation be a success. Additionally, Mr. Valdez and his students do a great job entertaining the crowd with his work on our jumbotron. Thank you, Mr. Valdez, for dedicating so much of your time to our students and our community!
We are very proud to announce Kristen Traeger as our Cardinal Spotlight of the week. Kristen served this year as the class of 2020 President and represented SHS very well as a member of our volleyball and basketball teams and National Honor Society. Most recently, Kristen was awarded TSATA Academic All-State Achievement Award as a member of our Athletic Training Program. Kristen is also graduating at the Top 10% of her 2020 class!
Cardinal Spotlight – Week of June 12: Southside High School
Jessica Martinez is an exceptional leader and teacher on our science team. As the science department chair, Mrs. Martinez is a strong supporter of campus initiatives, department advocate, and a voice for the student for the student body. Mrs. Martinez has proven to be an asset to SHS and our community.
Ariel Sanchez joined the Southside High School Police Explorers Post 8201 her sophomore year and was a strong leader then and ultimately earned the Police Explorer Chief rank her Senior year, while maintaining cheerleading, Varsity Soccer, her academics, attendance and employment outside of school. We are proud of Ariel for all her accomplishments. Sanchez also graduated with her Level II Security Officer Certificate. Congratulations to you, Ariel Sanchez, for your leadership, dedication & commitment to the Southside High School Law Enforcement, Public Safety, Corrections & Security CTE Program & SHS Police Explorer Post 8201. Cardinal Spotlight – Week of June 5: Southside High School
Coach Anna Soto has been an integral piece to providing support to our Seniors in virtual and making herself available at all hours to help them be successful. We are grateful to her for her commitment to our students, not only throughout the year, but especially here at the end as we approached the finish line!
Ashley Zuniga is a young woman who never gives up. This year she worked extremely hard and was determined to graduate early to get started on her college goals. She is planning on becoming a nurse and she proves that if you have a dream, hard work, goal setting, and consistency is the way to one’s success. Ashley Zuniga is soaring to success!
Cardinal Spotlight – Week of May 29: Southside High School
King Torres is an exemplary young man. King joined Southside this fall. He came in like a hurricane strong willed and determined. He proved that hard work, commitment, and using consistent communication can really help to achieve goals. He remained committed to his education and achieved success. We are very proud of him and glad he graduated a Southside Cardinal.
Ms. Susana De La Fuente works tirelessly to aid the success of our Southside HS students. Ms. D works in the Virtual Lab and is always willing to provide support in any area of need. Her commitment and dedication to the Southside Cardinal community is appreciated. She helps at various sporting events and supports students not only in the classroom but also in their extracurricular activities. Thank you Ms. De La Fuente for ALL you do.
