In keeping with our monthly team introductions, here is our awesome 3rd Grade Team. This team consists of five classroom teachers and one special education support teacher. They range in years of experience and knowledge, but not in enthusiasm and creativity. The team is led by a former Southside ISD Teacher of the Year, Jessica Delgado; followed by a returning 3rd grade teacher, Christina Traeger; and moving up to 3rd from 1st grade is Karla Montemayor. The last three teachers are all new to Heritage, two dual language teachers, Michele Iruegas and SanJuana Pena; and the special education teacher, Eric Garcia. This team diligently works together to plan exciting and motivating lessons for their students. As STAAR tests approach, they will encourage their students by incorporating fun activities that also ease some of the stress for these first time STAAR test takers. They also realize the importance of attendance and motivate students to attend school every Friday by having “dance parties” in the hall as students enter the hallway and their classrooms. Pictured from left to right are Delgado, Traeger, Iruegas, Pena, Garcia. Pictured separately is Montemayor.

4th & 5th STEAM Flying Machines
Every Monday while our 4th & 5th grade Little Cardinal Athletes practice during their Specials time, the rest of the students enjoy a STEAM Project. This month they worked in small groups to create a flying machine, either two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Such creative students!
STEAM Event – Hour of Coding at Heritage
All Heritage students began participating in an “Hour of Code” last week. They will continue this week. The official Hour of Code day this year fell on Sunday, Dec. 12. It began as a way to demystify coding and now it is a world wide event. Students enjoyed creating code during their Computer Lab and Library times.
Cardinal Spotlight 12/13/2021
Heritage’s staff Spotlight this week is 3rd grade Dual-Language teacher, San Juanita Pena. Mrs. Pena is not new to education but new to Heritage. She has brought a ray of sunshine to our campus! Mrs. Pena is a very supportive colleague. She is always the first to volunteer when something needs to be done or someone needs assistance; a true team player. Her warm smile and kind words lift the spirits of her students! Thanks for being a bright addition to Team Heritage!2 Our Student Spotlight this week is 2nd grade student, Emmett Perez. He is an outstanding 2nd grade student and friend. He is such a help to his teacher and peers and is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is responsible and can always be relied on by his teacher to help others make the right decisions. Emmett loves to learn and is always going above and beyond with his assignments and with open discussions in the classroom. Congratulations and keep up the great work Emmett!
