Heritage Elementary
9 Week Assessment Exam Information
Cardinal Spotlight 2/22/2022
The Heritage staff Cardinal Spotlight is Dr. DeVonna Friesenhahn. Dr. Friesenhahn serves as our Academic Dean. She has a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership; and her previous assignments include Assistant Principal at the elementary and middle school levels, Academic Coach, Instructional Coach, Educational Professor at UTSA, and served as the Field Coach for the Teacher Preparation Program at UTSA. Currently she serves as an Educational Adjunct Professor at St. Phillips College. We were fortunate to have such an experienced and skilled individual join our administrative team two months into the school year. Dr. Friesenhahn leads teachers in weekly data meetings, and helps them use their data to drive their instruction and interventions. She has done incredible work in the short time she has been here. In addition to all this, she always greets everyone with a smile and has such a positive attitude. Thank you for joining our team and making a difference. Heritage is proud to recognize 1st grader, Juliana Saldaña, as our Cardinal Spotlight this week. She comes to school with a positive attitude and is enthusiastic to learn. Even though she is shy and soft-spoken, she is everyone’s friend. She is a perfect example of an exemplary student by being prepared and always attempting her best effort in everything she does. Juliana loves all things “girlie” like rainbows, unicorns, and butterflies. She is also a big sister to a Menchaca student. We are so proud of you Juliana!

Cardinal Spotlight 2/7/2022
This week’s staff spotlight for Heritage Elementary is our fabulous counselor, Alicea Campos. She is a kind and generous person to all things living. Our students and staff are fortunate to be able to go to her whenever we need someone to talk to or help with any particular situation. She is also known for stopping and rescuing dogs on the side of the highway in the middle of a rainstorm. Mrs. Campos works with our parents and community, as well as our social worker, to be sure students and their families’ needs are being met. All this, and she still finds time to do lessons with classes and deliver the Cardinal Cash Cart to all the rooms. Your patient way and easy smile is something that brightens the day for all of us. Thank you for all you do!
The Heritage Student Spotlight this week is 2nd grader, Edmundo Antunez. He is the kind of student that might not draw your immediate attention because he is quiet, until he gets to know you; and when it’s time to work, he just focuses on his work. Edmundo loves to read and it shows in his reading scores. He is also very skilled in math and likes the other subjects as well. His fellow students turn to him for help when they are struggling and Edmundo is always happy to assist them. In his spare time he enjoys cars and writing. Congratulations Edmundo, we can’t wait to see what great things you do in the future!
“Kids Heart Challenge” Kick Off
On Monday, January 31st, all students went to the gym for the Kids Heart Challenge kick off. Coach Perez explained all about the program. Our students have the opportunity to complete 14 challenges over a period of two weeks. With ”Random Acts of Kindness” week coming up, this is the perfect way for students to exercise their own hearts and also raise money for the American Heart Association and children that aren’t as healthy as they are. Students will be thinking about hearts on Valentine’s Day soon and here’s one way to show love and kindness for someone else. Students are also learning all about the heart in Music and Art classes. Please visit the website or our Facebook page where there’s a link, or you can download the free app and your students will win prizes. The classes collecting the most donations at each grade level will get to “slime” Coach Perez and Coach Herrera. Also, any student collecting at least $50 in donations will have the opportunity to “slime” them as well. We know students at Heritage Elementary are giving and loving children, so we can’t wait to see how they show it with this fun program.
