The PTO popcorn fundraiser was a huge success! Thank you to all the students and their very generous and supportive families. Your time and effort is so appreciated. The money that was raised goes to help fund field trips, attendance incentives, prizes and certificates, and the end of the year activities. I am thankful to each family, whether you sold a few bags of popcorn or many. Although, there are a few I’d like to recognize. The top seller with 302 bags is Harmony Florez, second place went to Austin De la Rosa with 156 bags, and third place to Dominick Delgado with 145 bags. Devin Nicholls and Eli Villegas tied for 4th place with 143 bags each. Rounding out the top is Marley Garcia with 138 bags sold. Each of these students received an award. Again, thank you from myself and all of the Heritage family.

First I want to thank all of our parents, grandparents, community members, foster parents, staff, and PTO. The popcorn sale has been a huge success! The money raised is used to fund field trips, attendance incentive prizes, and end of year awards among other things. Thank you also for getting your children to school everyday, on time and staying until the end of the day. Our scores are showing great improvement and it starts with attendance. In fact, our campus had the highest daily attendance average for the month of January. Let’s see if we can do it again! Lastly, thank you for encouraging your children to read. The Accelerated Reader Program (AR) is a great way to help your child build on their reading and comprehension skills. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes a day at home. After they read, they take the online quiz and earn points. Many of our classes have been rewarded with pizza parties because they were the highest points earner in the district for their grade level. Students also have been rewarded with individual prizes. We had one student in January and two students in February reach “Millionaire” status which means they have accumulated over one million AR points. They each receive a bag full of prizes from the district. Our campus was awarded a trophy for top Participation by an elementary campus. I am very proud of all of our hard working students, families, and staff! (Pictured are January Millionaire, Mia Uribe and February Millionaires; Khloe Falcon and Aimar Mendoza-Reyes)

Whew, January was a full month! February promises to be equally packed and full of memorable events. We have days celebrating the calendar with “Twos” days, days remembering that it’s rodeo time, the 100th day of school, and Random Acts of Kindness day. Classes will exchange Valentines on Friday, February 11, and then have the next two Mondays off. With two grade levels planning field trips this month, things are finally getting back to what we used to know as “normal”. All these events and more are on our printed calendar that went home on pink paper; but you can also find it on our website listed on our online calendar. Students are excited to be here every day, so please keep the momentum going and work to get them here on time and encourage them to stay until the end of the day. Thank you for all you do for our students, we are one!

Welcome back and Happy 2022! I have heard people say that 2022 is said, “2020 too.” In other words, it is going to be another year like 2020. I know this is not true at Heritage. Our students, staff, and families have learned from the past and the first semester proved we are way beyond 2020. Attendance is improving, our end of the semester scores in all areas in all grades show growth, and students continue to practice good hygiene by washing their hands, using sanitizer, and wearing masks. The list goes on, but what is important to remember is we have the 2nd semester in front of us. While we will continue to have fun activities planned to encourage attendance and effort, we also ask families to continue to read with your students and take AR (Accelerated Reader) tests, to practice math facts with your students, and to help build an appreciation for school and learning by getting your children to school everyday, on time and staying until the end of the day. Let’s continue working together for an even better future at Heritage!

Happy December families and community members!
First, I want to invite you all to join me on Tuesday, December 7 at 9am for some delicious pastries. We will be discussing all things Heritage. This is also your chance to share your concerns and compliments. Together we will continue to make Heritage a great place for our students to grow and learn.
Next, I want to remind everyone that attendance is one of the key factors that determines a student’s success in school. For this reason, we have created a fun December calendar full of daily dress ups and incentives for coming to school. (The calendar was sent home, is on the Heritage webpage, and has been posted on our Facebook page.) The week of December 13-16 students will receive daily attendance prizes just for showing up. In addition to all this fun, I will be wearing various costumes everyday so students should be sure to come to school to take part in all the festivities.

As we begin the 2nd 9 weeks of school, I would like to bring attention to a very important matter, attendance. Research shows that this is one of the most important factors to impact a student’s success in school. (See chart below) Being present every day matters. When a student is absent they miss multiple lessons throughout the day. Yes, teachers do their best to catch a student up with a mini lesson, but it is not the same as being present for the “big teach”. In saying this, it is equally important to remember that attendance also means being on time and remaining in school until the end of the day. We know things come up and that’s understandable, but we have many student holidays this year and we ask that doctors appointments be made on these days if possible. Teachers are creating unique and fun lessons to engage students and our school rewards attendance with many different prizes throughout the year, we just ask that parents/guardians join us in valuing good attendance. Working together our students will Dream, Believe, and Achieve great things! Thank you for your continued support.
