Our Staff Cardinal Spotlight this week is 5th grade teacher, Mr. Gabriel Morin. He is a veteran teacher with many years of experience and even previously taught here in Southside. He returned to our A rated campus this year as a 4th grade dual language teacher, but when classes needed to be rearranged; he happily moved to where he was needed, in 5th grade. Mr. Morin is a proud United States Army veteran and an Eagle Scout. These experiences have helped him become the passionate teacher he is and build strong relationships with his students. Science is his favorite subject to teach and his students benefit from his excitement. Welcome to the team and congratulations! |
Amerie Aranda is a wonderful 5th grade student at Heritage Elementary. A pleasure to have in class, Amerie is an exemplary student who always gives her best effort. Although she is typically quiet in class, her peaceful demeanor and kindness speaks volumes. Her favorite subject is math. Dancing is her favorite pastime. Although she is looking forward to meeting new teachers as a 6th grader, she will miss her favorite teacher, Mrs. Monroy. When she advances to 6th grade, Heritage will miss her, too.

Cardinal Spotlight 12/12/2022
Our staff Spotlight this week is Elva Carreon. Ms. Carreon is our new morning custodian. Ms. Carreon is a joy to work with. She has a positive attitude and truly enjoys her job. She takes pride in her work and works incredibly hard to keep Heritage tidy and clean! She is easy to approach and eager to help with a ready smile. Ms. Carreon learned the layout of our school and her responsibilities so fast it feels as though she’s been here for years. We just hope we have the pleasure of her being here for years to come! Welcome to the team!

The Heritage Student Spotlight this week is 2nd grader, Cesario Suarez. Cesario is new to Southside and Heritage this year. He has made a name for himself with a quick smile and a silver tongue. Cesario works hard to be a successful student and aims to please his teacher. In fact, he frequently reminds her of her beauty. Aside from compliments, he is quite the gentleman, often helping others. He demonstrated his genuine and unprompted kindness by helping a peer who was having a very difficult morning. “She was still crying, but I wouldn’t give up.” He sat with her and helped her with the assignment until she felt better. Such kindness makes us so proud of Cesario and exemplifies the Heritage family. Thank you, Cesario for being a kind, sensitive person and our Cardinal of the Week! |

Cardinal Spotlight Week of 11/28/2022
Our staff Spotlight this week is Veronica Gutierrez. After hearing about our amazing students and staff from a couple of her friends that started working here last year, she was eager to make the move to Southside and Heritage. Following her first week here, she knew she had made the right decision. Ms. Gutierrez happily drives out here with her daughter (who is a student here) to work with her 1st grade class. Her students love having her as their teacher because she works hard to make connections with them and meet their needs. Ms. Gutierrez has also been one of the three teachers that have been working with our after school Art Club. She is quick to see a need, and respond to it. We feel lucky to have this wonderful teacher as part of our team!
The Heritage Student Spotlight this week is 5th grader, Jaciella Flores. She has been a student here since PreK and she has definitely grown into her own. Jaciella has always been helpful and friendly, but was a little bit shy at times. Now she is quick to speak up with ideas or questions. She is one of our Student Leaders on campus. When the leaders met with Superintendent Rolando Ramirez, she was vocal about what was great at Heritage and ideas to make it even better. At our student-led Veterans Day Ceremony, she had one of the largest parts to present. It was obvious that she had put the time and effort into studying her part which paid off in a flawless, easy to understand delivery. In addition to all this, Jaciella works hard to keep her grades up and fully participate in her classroom. Remember her name because I’m sure we’ll all hear more about her as she continues her student career in Southside and beyond.
Cardinal Spotlight 11/7/2022
Melina Bazaldua is new to Heritage Elementary. She serves as a Dual Language teacher for 3rd grade. Ms. Bazaldua has already proven herself to be an asset to our campus. She is quick to volunteer and it is always with a smile. Her students enjoy her class because she works hard to build a classroom community which encourages the 4 B’s; be kind, respectful, safe, and responsible. Welcome to the team!

Daniel Vallejo is a sweet, generous, and kind 3rd grader at Heritage. Generally, he is rather quiet and observant, but that did not stop him from displaying courage and kindness when he deflected teasing directed at a peer. Showing assertiveness, he stood up for the person being teased and calmly, redirected everyone back to recess. We are so proud of his ability to help others and to model appropriate behavior. Cardinal Spotlight 10/24/2022
The Heritage Staff Spotlight is a new member of our Special Education team, Mr. Jesus Jurado. Mr. Jurado serves as an inclusion teacher. He has been with Southside since 2016, but we were lucky enough to have him join our team this year! Mr. Jurado sets the example for his students, showing that with determination and hard work you can do anything. He was passionate about working with children and started as a paraprofessional, going to school and working towards being a teacher. Mr. Jurado can be seen walking and talking with students, always with a smile and kindness in his voice. Congratulations Mr. Jurado and welcome to our team!

Bryanna Ramos is an outstanding 3rd grade student at Heritage Elementary. Not only did she have perfect attendance last year, but she also had all A’s. Her tradition of excellence continues this year. But, her fabulousness goes beyond academics. She is kind and thoughtful with peers. Her calm, quiet demeanor belies her fortitude as she stands up for what is right and for others, exhibiting the courage to do what is right, even if no one is looking. |

Cardinal Spotlight 10/10/2022
Mrs. Puente has an A state rated campus with the highest rating of 95 of any of our campuses! In fact, Heritage is 1 of 2 campuses in the entire state that jumped from an F to an A state rating. Mrs. Puente is extremely competitive and wants to be prepared for everything that is requested of Heritage. When something is asked of her she is quick to deliver. She is a hard worker and goes above and beyond what is asked of her. Her staff follow her example by working hard in all of the district initiatives. Keep up the great work Mrs. Puente!

Kenneth “Kenny” Knigge is an energetic and curious 3rd grader at Heritage Elementary with the courage to ask questions. He is very observant and always has ideas on how things work and how to make them work better. Along with his inquisitive mind, he possesses a kind heart. A caring big brother, Kenny is an enthusiastic helper who often creates gifts and leaves momentos for others. Congratulations, Kenny! We love having you as part of the Heritage family! |
