Cardinal Spotlight

Jacqueline Cantu has been with the district 9 years and Heritage was lucky enough to get her 3 years ago.  Our Special Needs students are so fortunate to have such a sweet person to work with because she is always so calm and patient.   She believes that ” Every child can learn, just not on the same day or the same way,” which shows every day in the way she works with them.  She also can be seen helping out in many other areas around the school, usually in her high heeled shoes; Mrs. Cantu is small but mighty and we’re mighty happy to spotlight her this week!

Emelia Sanchez is a hard-working and very sweet 1st-grade student at Heritage Elementary. Emelia has been ready and eager to learn every day this school year. She is an active participant in all subjects and is quick to want to share her knowledge with her classmates.  She has been going above and beyond with her assignments and enjoys showcasing her artistic ability every chance she gets. Emelia, congratulations on being our Cardinal of the Week! We are very proud of you.

This week’s Heritage Cardinal Spotlight is our LID teacher, Gloria Davis, and first-grade student, Natalie Sutton.

Gloria Davis is tasked with an ever-growing class, but takes it in stride, always wanting to put the needs of her diverse students first. Mrs. Davis also works hand in hand with many of our paraprofessionals and she does so with grace and professionalism. She is always ready to lend a hand or share a smile when it’s needed. For her, teaching is a family affair because her husband teaches at Matthey MS and she has two daughters that are Southsiders too. Thank you for all you do for Heritage and especially for its students.

Natalie Sutton is an enthusiastic learner, not only online but in her everyday life. She looks for things to read and numbers to add and subtract. Even though she is enjoying sharing this learning experience with her mother, she really misses spending time on the carpet with her friends at school. Keep up the great work and positive attitude Natalie!

Jennifer Jones has been with Southside ISD for 17 years, but that’s just the beginning. For her it’s a family affair, her parents are retired from Southside and her children are all graduates of Southside. When you ask for help with something or just see her in passing, she is always professional but treats you like a family too. Whenever there is a function on campus, she doesn’t hesitate to ask “What can I do?” or “What do you need me to bring?” Especially during the new adventure we call the school, she seems to take it in stride – easily adapting and leading her team so students at home and in school are getting what they need. We appreciate Ms. Jones and all that she does at Heritage.

Joseph Salazar is a dedicated first-grade student who puts forth a bright smile to his virtual class every day. He is extremely sweet towards all his classmates and especially towards his teacher. My favorite line from him is, “Thank you for teaching me today.” He has definitely earned this week’s spotlight!

Diana Oviedo-Holguin is a 1st Grade Dual Language teacher and has been at Heritage for 13 years and in our district for a total of 14 1/2 years. Mrs. Holguin shows her dedication to her students and profession by being here early every morning and usually is here so late on Fridays she has to be kicked out. So when you see her, greet her with an “Hola y gracias,” because she truly deserves it!

Emerson Nieto is a lively first grader with a smile that lights up a room. Emerson is a creative, kind, and an out of the box thinker that loves participating in lessons. His interests include playing Uno, his dog Ruby, and eating his favorite food, pepperoni pizza.
