When the last day of the 2020-2021 school year comes, most of us will be relieved and hope that next year brings a bit more normalcy. However, next year will not be the same without one of our most treasured teachers, Ms. Karen Quebe. After teaching four years at Losoya Intermediate School then opening Heritage Elementary and working here for 22 years, she is retiring. Ms. Quebe has made a positive impact on the lives of so many Southside students and their families along with the difference she made at our school. For the last 8 years she has been our dyslexia teacher, working with small groups of students to get them where they need to be. Thank you for your dedication and service to Southside. As you run off to race in more marathons, know you’ll always have a home here at Heritage.

Letter from the Superintendent – Pearce Elementary
Dear Southside ISD Community,
On April 17, 2021, a fire at Pearce Elementary affected 13 classrooms and the cafeteria. An investigation determined that arson was the cause of the fire. At the request of the Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office, Southside ISD refrained from making any statements to avoid compromising the integrity of the investigation.
Through cooperative efforts with the Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office, a suspect was arrested in connection with the fire. We want to be very clear, Southside ISD will not tolerate any criminal behavior and we will prosecute anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. It is criminal that the suspect caused a major upheaval to the learning environment of hundreds of Southside ISD school children.
We know that our students are resilient and we remain committed to their safety and academic success. Southside ISD will continue to be transparent at all times. Now that this suspect has been arrested, we can move forward and continue with the great work going on here at Southside ISD. Lastly, we are grateful and very proud of our parents, teachers, other campuses, and staff for coming together to help our students at Pearce Elementary.
Thank you

Letter from the Superintendent – Heritage Elementary May 4, 2021
Dear Parents
This morning, Tuesday May 4, the district received a report of inappropriate online conduct at one of the student’s homes within the boundaries of Heritage Elementary. This inappropriate conduct apparently took place before the class session began. The district is investigating the matter. Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff is a priority of the district. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the district at (210) 882-1607.

Heritage Student Art
Since the pandemic has kept many of you from visiting our campus, we want to share some of the artwork created by our students. It is hard to tell if you’re in a school or art gallery with all the beautiful pieces hanging in our halls. Since March, the students have learned about artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, and O’Keeffe while creating Spring pictures. They have also tried weaving on a variety of student made looms. Following this, students learned about insects, spiders, and bees while creating their own bug inspired pieces.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week
May 3-7 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Heritage is such a great place to go to school and also to work at because of its amazing staff, especially its teachers. This year has been especially challenging, but you stepped up and made it work. Thank you for all you do!
