September 6-10 is National Substitute Appreciation Week so we wanted to take a minute to recognize two of the best! Heritage is lucky enough to have two ladies that always say, “Yes,” when asked to work. Mrs. Cruz and Mrs. Reyes have been members of our team for years. Both of them are able to work in monolingual classes as well as dual language classes. They are flexible and reliable and we appreciate them. During this COVID cautious time, they still come in and work; without them, classes would have to be split amongst other teachers and their already full classes. Thank you ladies for being true professionals and for always showing up!

New Student Information System: Ascender – Parent Portal
Southside ISD switches to new student information software Ascender – Parent Portal.
The parent portal will be live for use after Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Links work but will be undergoing maintenance until August 4.
Ascender – Parent Portal provides online access to school-related information about your students, including enrollment, attendance, grades, discipline, assessments, immunizations, and more! Parents can access the parent portal from the campus websites, the parent page, and the district homepage.
The Ascender Parent Portal will replace the student information software Skyward.
The Parent Portal is available for parents and guardians of Southside ISD students. Returning and New parents will need to create an account, find out how by visiting southideisd.org/ascender.

Fun Day at Heritage
Students and staff are finishing the year in a fun way. Each grade level is celebrating the end of the year and their effort on the STAAR test or End of Year tests. Students first were recognized with classroom awards then enjoyed rotating through stations consisting of dancing, arts & crafts, sidewalk chalk, beachball volleyball, and finally the moon bounce & slide. After a cool down period and lunch, students then enjoyed a movie with snacks provided by the district.
Heritage Leaders are Recognized
At the May board meeting, three members of our team were recognized for participating in an enrichment program. Instructional coach, Kristi Scott, 1st grade team lead, Venessa Cerda, and 4th grade team lead, Terrena Bernal, spent the last year working upwards of 1.5 hours a week and meeting at least 3 times a month. These three ladies learned about daily tasks and procedures involved in being a campus administrator. They received presentations from every department within the district to gain a deeper understanding of not only the academics of a campus, but how you also must be business oriented to keep the campus functioning as it should. Finally, they learned the importance of working together with each department to help a campus run as smoothly as possible. We are so fortunate to have these three leaders as part of our team!
