Frequently Asked Questions for Southside ISD Student Dress Code and Clear Backpacks

Q: Why are we enforcing uniform standards consistently across Southside ISD Schools? Expand

A:  We believe uniforms play an important role in maintaining a culture of focused learning and positive behavior. Uniforms promote a sense of school identity and cohesion, helping to raise the standards of school academics and prepare students for success.

Q: What kind of shirts can students wear? Expand

A: Any solid red, black, or white color t-shirt, polo shirt, blouse, or sweater that adheres to the student dress code in the student handbook.

Q: Can there be other brand logos on shirts ( i.e. Nike, Adidas, etc.)? Expand

A:  It is not recommended, we prefer no logos or school logos (campus or district spirit shirts). But, we will accept non-school logos smaller than 3 inches.

Q: A store and/or a person is selling a school shirt without a logo but in school colors, can I buy it? Expand

A: Yes.

Q: Can I or another person/organization on the internet or anywhere make shirts with the school logo? Expand

A:  Any organization, person, or business needs to get permission from the SISD Communications Department or the superintendent to use the school logo.  Because SISD is a government organization it is illegal for others to profit off the logo without an agreement in place.

Q: I saw school shirts with the SISD official logos at Target, HEB, and Walmart, is that legal? Can I buy them there? Expand

A. Yes, SISD has an agreement with these stores and is working on an agreement with Dollar General.

Q: People at the district say that we can only buy school shirts at the SISD Printshop, is that true? Expand

A:  No. You can buy school shirts anywhere.  But, you can also purchase shirts from the school Print Shop by visiting  http://southsideisd.org/dept/print-services/

Q: Will students be required to wear specific bottoms? Expand

Any bottoms that fit within the normal dress code in the student handbook are approved.

Q: What kind of jacket, sweater, etc. is my child allowed to wear? Expand

Similar to the shirt dress code students are able to wear any jacket, hoodie, sweater etc. that is in school colors and has no sponsored logo (Nike, Adidas, etc.) over 3 inches.

For the 2025 - 2026  Academic School year all SISD students can only carry clear/mesh backpacks and bags at school. This is for the safety and security of all people at SISD. We will make exceptions for athletes and some student organizations until they can find proper replacements for their equipment and instruments or we will institute bag checks.

Q: If the school issued clear backpack tears or breaks, will the school issue replacement? Expand

A: No. Only one backpack per student will be provided.

Q: Can I buy a clear or see-through mesh backpack with branded logos (Nike, Adidas, etc.) at a store? Expand

A:  Yes, as long as it is clear or see-through.

Q: Can my child carry a purse? Expand

A: A small purse, yes.

  • Clear Tote – Plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12″x6″x12″
  • Plastic Storage Bag – Clear, one(1) gallon, re-sealable

Q: Will students in athletics get athletic bags that are clear or mesh? Band bags? Cheer bags? Expand

A: Yes, if we can find bags that are appropriate for use, otherwise they can use any bag that works for them, but they may be subject to security checks.

Q: Will the free backpacks also be available with wheels for the little students? Expand

A: No.

Q: Are stickers or printed images allowed on clear backpacks? Expand
