Cardinal Spotlight

Our Cardinal staff Spotlight this week is our wonderful Science teacher Sadie Emery. This is Ms. Emery’s 6th year at Southside High School. She enjoys reading, engaging in politics (specifically as it applies to Children’s Rights), and gardening. Ms. Emery’s teaching philosophy is student centric and focuses on positive relationships with the students. Her determination to want to help her students grow as scholars and also as people is admired. We praise Ms.Emery for her ability to form strong relationships with her students.

David Vasquez is an Early College student that is devoted to his studies and demonstrating leadership skills at Southside High School. He has experienced teachers who have genuinely loved to help students and is grateful for the passion his teachers have demonstrated during his four years at Southside High School. During his journey at Southside High School, David upholds the values of being a Cardinal by his continuous efforts of building positive relationships, engaging in community involvement, and being a positive role model. We thank David for all his hard work and dedication to displaying Cardinal pride.

Mr. Kenneth Farrell, one of the Social Studies department’s most adored staff members has been a cardinal for 15 years. Mr. Farrell teaches world history with our tenth grade team and has a great rapport with his students and peers. Mr. Farrell has a great love for history and baseball, specifically Baylor! Go Bears! SHS is very thankful to have Mr. Farrell as a member of our teaching community.

We are proud to have 9th grader, Krista Griego, as our Cardinal Student Spotlight this week. Krista is an excellent student who works hard in all of her classes. Krista’s favorite academic subject is Algebra. She is also a member of the Cardinals Basketball team.  When Krista is not in school she likes to travel and see new places. She hopes to become a Veterinarian Tech when she gets done with school.

Our Cardinal Staff Spotlight this week is Victoria Wells. Ms. Wells is the ECHS Path College Careers Teacher, she strives to prepare her 9th grade Cardinals to be successful dual credit students. Encouraging them to reach the goal of attaining a high school and associate’s diploma at the end of their high school journey. Ms. Wells has spent 4 years at Southside which has brought her great joy. She truly enjoys being a support system for all of her students. Ms. Wells’  hobbies outside of teaching include shopping, shopping, and more shopping. She also enjoys cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, reading, and spending time with her family. At the end of the day, Ms. Wells is a firm believer that family is EVERYTHING!

Jesus Lozada Paz is in the spotlight this week. Jesus is a high performing 9th grader at Southside High School. His favorite class is Algebra I, where he likes the processes and procedures of solving math equations. He is also a valued member of our Soccer team. Jesus enjoys learning to play the guitar. We are very proud of Jesus and all of his hard work!

Victor Gomez is an Algebra I and Algebra II teacher. Of his 10 years in teaching, 6 have been at Southside High School. Mr. Gomez works hard to integrate math to real world situations and show his students how math will help them succeed in their future endeavors. He lovesSouthside and especially his math department colleagues. Outside of school, Mr. Gomez loves to BBQ and go RVing with his family. Southside High School is fortunate to have a great teacher like Mr. Gomez on our staff.

Alexa Celestino is a 9th grader in our Early College High School Program. Alexa has challenged herself academically by enrolling in numerous honors courses, including Spanish III. She will also be taking her first dual credit course this spring. All of Alexa’s teachers have commented about her excellent manners and determined work ethic. When Alexa is not in school, she enjoys playing video games and spending time with her family. Alexa is an excellent role model and example of what it means to be a Southside Cardinal.

 

Mr. Eli Suarez is a Science Department Teacher and Coach for the High School.  Whether Coach Suarez is in the classroom or on the athletic field, he does a great job with our students and is always making sure our students are getting the concepts of learning through all types of learning styles.  He brings balance and structure in his classroom and students are motivated and having fun learning.  Great Job Coach Suarez and congratulations on being our Cardinal Teacher Spotlight of the week.

Sima Daniel – Sima is a 9th grader and is an ECHS student who works hard both in the classroom and on the volleyball court.  She goes above and beyond to complete assignments in her classrooms with a true intention to learn the material and apply that learning to all of her academic experiences as exemplified by her Science Teacher Mrs. Huggins, “I love that she asks questions not only for clarification but also follow – ups that result in higher order thinking, demonstrating she is thinking outside the box and making connections.” Congratulations Sima and keep up the Great Work!

Mr. David Brown has been a cardinal for the last six years and in that time has impacted the lives of many students at SHS. As the lead world history teacher, Mr. Brown has spearheaded a program that has allowed for a multicultural perspective in the study of world history and AP world history. Stepping into Mr. Brown’s classroom during one of his lectures immerses you into the era or historical event that he is talking about. Mr. Brown’s passion and excitement for teaching is very evident in his delivery during instructional time. Thank you Mr. Brown for your devotion to your student’s learning.

Keprisha Nixon is an 11th grade student. Keprisha is a student always looking to improve herself academically. As stated by her US History teacher, Mr. Ramirez “She has a wonderful thrust for knowledge and is eager to put her understanding in classroom discussions. She is always looking to improve herself, asking for advice so that she can turn in the best work. But what I admire most is the positive attitude she brings to class, her laughter is infectious and she brings joy to my class. I feel she has a promising future. I am proud to be her teacher.” Way to go Keprisha. Exemplifying the Cardinal expectations for academic achievement.
