Open Mic Events

Our school was fortunate enough to receive a grant from the Southside Education Foundation for writing. Students were each given a journal and teachers were given a book based on a theme. Students listened to the read aloud then wrote a creative story based on the book/theme. This was followed up with an “Open Mic Event” where students read to each other, staff, and families. So far our 1st and 2nd graders have held their events; they were a big success and students loved sharing their own writing!
