It Pays to Attend Southside ISD: We Learn Together & Earn Together

A student sharpens her reading skills in Ms. Ceceilia Martinez' first grade class at Pearce Elementary School.

Southside ISD educators are pleased a significant number of students are coming to class daily. “If they’re not here, they’re not learning. As long as they’re here, we are able to teach them,” said Pearce Elementary School academic dean Dr. Jennifer Uriegas. Now, a group of donors is making it cool to be in school. Students can win big prizes during the newly launched attendance campaign titled “It Pays to Attend Southside ISD:  We Learn Together and Earn Together.” Research shows that good attendance delivers results in education. Teachers are trying to prepare students for a successful career after they graduate, “It’s important to have good attendance when you’re in the workforce to keep a good job. Coming to school every day teaches life skills,” Dr. Uriegas said.

In order to be entered, students must have perfect attendance to be eligible for the $250 gift card and no disciplinary referrals or have 97% or better attendance and no disciplinary referrals for other prizes (students who miss school must have a written doctor’s excuse).

Remember, “It Pays to Attend Southside ISD:  We Learn Together and Earn Together.”
