Class of 2023 Seniors have been awarded more than five million in scholarships and the award season is just getting started. This is the highest the high school has been awarded since the Class of 2018 where the school was awarded $4.4 million in scholarships. Ms. Rosemary Rodriguez is our Career and College Readiness Facilitator housed in the Go Center where she assists students with making their dreams become a reality. She is a Southside Alumni and proud to give back to the community that is her home. She believes, “It doesn’t matter where you attend a community college or university, your success will follow you.”
One student has raised more than $500,000 alone. Alexandra Romero Piceno has been accepted to eight universities where she’s been awarded a total of $576,000 in scholarships. We have several students who have been awarded more than $200,000 and Ms. Rodriguez is determined to raise our goal even higher this year because the students deserve to see what possibilities are out there when they put in the effort.
Representatives from colleges, industry partners and military recruiters will arrive May 22, 2023 for Southside High School’s Annual Decision Day. On this day, seniors gather in front of their families and friends to announce where they will be attending after graduation. This event will be the second year the high school has included a career component to celebrate those who will be going into apprenticeships after high school to further pursue employment. Many are surprised with additional scholarships and awards from non profit organizations and colleges. Several hundred students participate in this event and we look forward to another successful school year.
