Ozobot Summer Program – Now Available

Southside ISD is having a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Academy this summer. Coding with Ozobots Summer Academy 2019 presents unique opportunities for all Southside ISD students, particularly 2019-2020 students entering 3rd, 4th  and 5th graders. The Academy will serve as an
additional outlet for students to use what they learn to program simple robots (Ozobots).

The summer program is estimated to last 4 days (Monday – Thursday). This program will be housed in the same building and follow the same hours as summer school. Once participants are chosen, a letter with detailed information will be delivered to each child.  Please note that there is limited capacity for the Academy.

Ozobots are small robots that can be controlled by students using pen and paper, tablets, smartphone Apps or computers. They can be used to teach math, science, ELA, social studies, and other topics. The use of Ozobots introduces coding, a high demand skill in today’s world and the future. By the conclusion of the Academy, your child will be exposed to coding, critical thinking, problem solving, the scientific method, and algorithms thereby offering an avenue which enables diverse participants to succeed in the future digital age.

In an effort to plan accordingly, each campus received forms sent home to students in current grade levels 2nd, 3rd, and 4th if you are an interested parent please sign and return the form to your child’s classroom teacher by April 25, 2019. If participant interest exceeds capacity of the Academy, participants will be chosen through a lottery system.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Samuel Ebong at (210) 882.1600 ext. 7107.

We look forward to making this summer fun for our students.
