Southside ISD secretary to the superintendent Louan Powers swears in Jesse Hernandez to the Board of Managers.

Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath named CPS Energy executive Jesse Hernandez to the Southside ISD Board of Managers. Hernandez replaces board vice president Gabe Farias who stepped down to pursue career opportunities. Hernandez is a resident of the Southside ISD, a Southside High School graduate, and works as the Director of Community Programs for the utility. His wife is a teacher in the South San ISD. The board then elected Dr. Lonna Clinch as vice president and Velia Minjarez as secretary. TEA Associate Commissioner Jeff Cottrell informed the Board that it is pleased with the performance of the board and the stability of the district. By 2021 he said the TEA could relinquish the board back to local control.
