CTE Students Cash in on their SISD Education

[soliloquy id=”1706″]            This summer Career and Technical Education students in the Printing and Imaging program used their knowledge and skills which they learned during the school year to get paid. They worked at paid internships in the Southside Independent School District print shop. Pearla Aguirre, Rachel Fuentes, and Kevin Samarron (Seniors); Demi Chavez and Moses Veloz (Juniors) were employed by SISD to help in the Print shop producing this year’s graphic arts and print production needs.            The instructional program teaches students employability skills, graphic arts principles, print production requirements from pre-press, digital press to bindery. The students are exposed to a live production environment through the use of SISD printing for all departments, Campuses and Administrative requests. Besides saving the SISD funds that could be utilized elsewhere, due to the reduced costs for printing needs, the Print shop has proven to be totally self-sufficient in the short two years that it has been open as an instructional classroom as part of the CTE curriculum at Southside High school. This includes providing the funds for the paid summer internship that these students worked under.            Southside ISD offers Career and Technical Education programs in Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources; Architecture & Construction; Arts, A/V Technology, and Communications; Education & Training; Hospitality & Tourism; Health Science; Human Services, Information Technology, Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Security; Manufacturing; Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics; and Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics. Admission to these programs is based on interest and availability.
