This is School Board Recognition Month. We kicked off this year’s Board Appreciation video series with a special video from our elementary schools. Next week, the secondary campuses will communicate their appreciation, followed by the SISD departments, community, and finally, Menchaca ECC.

Matthey Middle School Band Students Earn Spot in Region 11 TMEA Honor Band

Congratulations to Mr. Gregorio Garcia, Mr. Jose Rodriguez, and the Matthey band students for earning a place in the Region 11 TMEA Honor Band:

Bella Lopez (2nd year in a row) – Band 1
Chelsea Martinez (2nd year in a row) -Band 2
Noah Flores – Band 2
Sashenka Vasquez-Benavidez – Band 2
Charlize Decker – Band 2

Matthey Middle School Competes at the Solo and Ensemble Contest

The Matthey Middle School band had their Solo and Ensemble contest on May 17th, 2023. The purpose of this contest is to provide an opportunity for the students to prepare and practice a selected piece of music on their own using what they learned from working in a large ensemble. Director feedback was provided as needed.
The results are as follows:
83 students earned a First Division
9 students earned a Second Division
Four students were selected as Outstanding Soloists:
Emily Rangel – Clarinet, 6th grade
Ramon Santana – Trumpet, 6th grade
Lyrik Ewing – Tuba, 6th grade
Chelsea Martinez – Oboe, 7th grade
Congratulations to the Matthey Band!
