Matthey 8th Grade Girls Basketball Celebrates a Winning Season

Congratulations to the eighth-grade Matthey Middle School Girls’ Basketball Teams!

The Matthey A Team finished an incredible season as Undefeated Zone Champions, showcasing skill, determination, and true Cardinal spirit.

The B Team also delivered an impressive run, winning every game after their opener and earning the title of Zone Champions.

Congratulations to the Matthey Middle School TMEA MS All-Region Band Students

We are incredibly proud of all of our Matthey Middle School students who auditioned on Saturday, November 8 for the TMEA Middle School All-Region Band!

A special congratulations to the 7 students who earned a coveted spot in the All-Region Band and the 2 students selected as District Band Alternates. Students chosen for the All-Region Band will participate in a rehearsal on Friday evening and perform in a formal concert on Saturday afternoon at the Somerset Performing Arts Center.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our parents, campus administration, and fine arts band staff for your continued support in helping our students succeed!

Matthey BBQ Teams Qualify for State After Impressive Regional Wins

This weekend, November 15th, three of Matthey Middle School’s new BBQ teams competed for the first time at the Del Rio Regional BBQ Competition — and they made an impressive debut!

Smokin’ Texas Steel earned Reserve Champion Dutch Oven Upside Down Cake, Reserve Champion Ribs, 4th Place Ribeye, and finished 3rd Overall competing against high school teams.
Team members: Zane De Jesus, Joseph Ross, Romani Ruiz, Georgio Chavez, and Madison Garza.

Iron Flame BBQ brought home 1st Place Grilled Cheese, 1st Place Dutch Oven Upside Down Cake, and placed 6th Overall against high school teams.
Team members: Jaxon Dacy, Isaiah Perez, Benjamin Gomez, Davian Chavez, and Aaron Ruiz (Losoya 6th grader).

Sweet & Spicy BBQ finished with 5th Place Ribs, 5th Place Ribeye, 6th Place Chicken Lollipops, and 7th Place Dutch Oven Upside Down Cake.
Team members: Lyna Montelongo, Dylan Robles, Amairani Munoz, Isayanna Duran, and Younas Nawaz (Losoya 7th grader).

Congratulations to all three teams for qualifying for the State Competition in Burnet, TX! We are incredibly proud of their hard work and look forward to seeing their competitive spirit shine when all teams meet again at Holy Cross.

Matthey Middle School BBQ Teams Qualify for State After Impressive Regional Finishes

This past weekend, three BBQ teams from Matthey Middle School competed at the Falls City Regional BBQ Meet and left with some amazing finishes!
The Cardinal Q Crew came away with 1st place Grilled Cheese, 1st place Ribeye, and 1st place Ribs in the Middle School Division and took home Reserve Champion Middle School Team. Against high school teams, they were ranked 3rd Overall.
Team members include: Mia Montelongo, Angel Perez, Luis Mendez, Sophia Navarro, and Viviana Marines.
The Flaming Cardinals finished with 2nd place Grilled Cheese, 2nd Place Dutch Oven Cake, and 2nd Place Ribs. Against high school teams, they were ranked 5th Overall.
Team members include: Malachi and Azariah Cardoza, Elijah Guerrero, and Tristan Minnich.
The Grilling Cardinals finished with 3rd place Dutch Oven Cake and 3rd place Chicken Lollipop. Competing team members include: Matthew Tatarian, Rosalina Garza, Austin De La Rosa, and Caleb Hernandez.
All three teams have qualified for the state competition in Burnet, TX. Congratulations to all three teams, and we look forward to what our next three can do in Del Rio!
