Losoya Middle Schools Amalia Gonzalez has been cleaning classrooms at Southside ISD for the past 17 years. “I have my G.E.D. I have a nurses certificate. But I choose to be here. I love my job,” said Gonzalez. As the the school’s lead custodian, the responsibility falls on her to make sure the classrooms and cafeteria are clean and ready for students every day. “We do more than just clean. In the summer we paint the classrooms. We do this for the students. We want them to feel at home. We want them to trust us,” she said. Gonzalez said students will sometimes leave notes of gratitude for her team. “It’s more than just a job. It’s a family,” Gonzalez said. Gonzalez is one of 54 Southside ISD custodians who work to keep our schools clean and spotless to create the best learning environment for our students.
