Bexar Co. Judge Sakai learns children in Southside ISD dodge dangerous traffic daily to get to school

A Southside ISD student dashes across Martinez-Losoya Road; one of Bexar County's busiest streets in the district.

Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai met with Southside ISD representatives and learned of children walking along dangerous roads with traffic just to get to school. On Thursday, May 18th, Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez met with Judge Sakai and informed him about the need for sidewalks surrounding the district’s main compound on Highway 281 South and Martinez-Losoya Road. The Judge said Southside children deserve the same infrastructure as children anywhere in Bexar County. Superintendent Ramirez said, “The safety of our students is our priority, and our district should not be different from any district anywhere. It poses quite a danger to our students, especially with the heavy traffic we have in the area.” The Superintendent says we now need the support of our parents and community along with Bexar County Judge Sakai, County Commissioner Becky Clay-Flores, State Representative John Lujan, and the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDoT) to find a solution. Judge Sakai would like to hear your thoughts. Please email the Southside ISD Public Relations Director at:  Randy.Escamilla@SouthsideISD.org.
