Large Enrollment Turnout at Pre-K and Kinder Registration; Next Registration May 2nd/May 3rd

New students are lining up in large numbers to enter Southside ISD’s Menchaca Early Childhood Center.  Approximately 120 new students enrolled in Pre-K3, Pre-K4, and kindergarten classes during the first of two Spring early registration events.

“Parents were so excited to register their children and kept asking us if there will be enough space. They’re excited for their children to start,” said Menchaca Early Childhood Center principal Mrs. Tanya Mares.

Three and 4-year old students must qualify for the Pre-K program. The Pre-K program in Texas is based on income. Qualifications include being economically disadvantaged, the child of an active duty military personnel or a Purple Heart recipient, or a veteran injured during war, a foster child, homeless, a child unable to speak or comprehend the English language, the child of parents eligible for the Star of Texas Award such as police or firefighters, or if the child was eligible for Pre-K in a prior year.

Entering kindergarten students will automatically roll over for registration. Parents are encouraged to log into the Ascender Parent Portal to update information and upload supporting documents.

The next Pre-K/Kinder registration is Tuesday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 3rd from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Menchaca Early Childhood Center located at 16180 U.S. Highway 281 South. San Antonio Metro Health will be offering free mandatory vaccines at the events. For information call 210-882-1610.
