On a hot September afternoon, the Southside High School Mighty Cardinal Band rehearsed in the Pearce Elementary School parking lot. However, they had a surprise visitor. They invited Superintendent Mr. Rolando Ramirez to their practice. As the superintendent arrived, band members surrounded him while band director Mr. Michael Misko surprised Superintendent Ramirez with an announcement. The Texas Music Educators Association selected Superintendent Ramirez with its Distinguished Administrator Award. Following the surprise announcement, Superintendent Ramirez thanked the students and returned to his office and hung his award. “I’m honored and know it’s more evidence we’re on the right track working to provide our students with the best opportunities. This is really for them,” said the Superintendent.
