Southside High GEAR UP Students tour Texas A&M-College Station

Southside High School GEAR UP students in the Academic Building at Texas A&M University-College Station.

Research shows that high school students who visit a college campus have a greater likelihood of gaining admission. On Monday, October 18, a group of 31 Southside High School 9th and 10th grade students visited Texas A&M University at College Station. They are part of the District’s GEAR UP grant. GEAR Up, which stands for, Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness in Undergraduate Programs, focuses on preparing high school students to be successful university students. Every Southside High School 9th and 10th grade student is automatically enrolled in the GEAR Up program. Students are currently visiting universities in Texas. Baylor University in Waco is next on the agenda. Anyone interested in making the trip should stop by the GEAR Up office in the ACES administration building.
