Southside Independent School District has been selected as one of the state’s top 3 school districts for English Language Proficiency development and growth. Test scores also show 768 students at Losoya Middle School, Matthey Middle School, Freedom Elementary School, Heritage Elementary School, Pearce Elementary School, and Gallardo Elementary School performed well in closing the Equity GAP among Emergent Bilingual students. Southside ISD made the most progress in the San Antonio-area with a 26 point gain, which is more than double from 2019. “It is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and sense of urgency of our Emergent Bilingual students, parents, teachers, and leadership,” said Bilingual Programs Director Mrs. Adriana Bermea. Southside ISD will be recognized at the Texas Association of Bilingual Educators conference on October 26th in El Paso. Summit K12 will award the 1st Place District with $1500, 2nd Place District with $1000, and 3rd Place District with $750.
