(San Antonio, TX) – A letter was sent out to all graduating seniors on July 20th announcing that the postponed in-person June graduation for July 23rd was officially canceled. SHS administrators and SISD leadership were and continue to be in constant contact with health experts, city, and county leaders for direction. Considering the on-going spike in COVID 19 cases in San Antonio, it was under the advice of public health officials that the event should be canceled. The Public Health Directive was released last week imposing restrictions on all public and private schools. Please see the link below.
Principal Demetria Sance said this was a very difficult call, but the safety of the students and staff is always the highest priority, ” Although we were looking forward to celebrating your accomplishments with a traditional in-person ceremony, we are thankful to have had the opportunity to honor our class of 2020 with a virtual graduation and diploma curbside pick-up.”
The call was made just days before the scheduled graduation at the SHS stadium because district administrators were hopeful the situation with the coronavirus would improve. Unfortunately, the numbers are not encouraging and this district continues to advise all SISD community members to be careful, stay at home as much as possible, wear masks and follow all recommended guidelines to stop the spread of COVID- 19.
