Southside ISD children introduced to UIW medical school

The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine honored Southside ISD families with a special dinner this week. The families are volunteers in the medical school’s community engagement program. Medical School Dean Dr. Robyn Phillips-Madson personally greeted each family at the event. A team of four medical students are assigned to each family to help address the family’s needs. The medical students benefit because it prepares them to become better doctors. The evening event also turned into a fun introduction into medical school for about 40 children who attended. About 20 student doctors organized a children’s room with dozens of games that truly engaged the children of all ages. The evening at the UIWSOM turned into a great event four Southside ISD parents, children, doctors, and future doctors.
