SHS Teachers Attend Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Tier 1 Training

Great things are happening at Southside ISD and Southside High School! Southside ISD has adopted the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) prevention framework which involves the application of evidence-based strategies and systems designed to improve academic performance, enhance school safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish positive school cultures through a multi-tiered behavioral framework.

The features of PBIS include: prevention, defining and teaching positive social expectations, acknowledging positive behavior, arranging consistent consequences for problem behavior, engaging in ongoing collection and using data for decision-making, providing a continuum of intensive, individual intervention supports, and implementing systems that support effective practices While the students were enjoying their summer, the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team received 3 days of PBIS Tier 1 training.  Dr. Heather George, PBIS Technical Assistance provider for the School Climate Transformation Grant, traveled to Southside ISD to share her expertise with our high school teachers and administrators.  Amazing plans were set in place to make Southside an environment that will promote Cardinal success.  Each student will be supported to maximize their potential to Be a Cardinal: Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. The PBIS team is working to ensure our students have procedures and incentives in place to encourage success in the 2017-2018 school year and beyond.
