(Cape Canaveral, FL) – After multiples launch delays and reschedules the Southside HS Mission 10 Student Spaceflight Experiment Program (SSEP) team is excited to know their experiment is now on the International Space Station. Their experiment successfully launched aboard a space shuttle late Saturday June 3, 2017.
Principle student scientist Alexandra Coleman and her team Christianna Cosgray, Eberardo Rodriguez Esquivel, Dr. Sam Ebong and Jonathan Garcia work on experiment. They will be presenting their results in Washington D.C. this month with SISD’s second team for the Mission 11 program.
The Mission 11 experiment is set to launch in August. This team of three are all from Matthey MS. Although their experiment launches later this summer, they will still present in front of NASA and other science professionals at the National Air and Space Museum June 28th and June 29th.
This is SISD’s inaugural launch and first time to ever participate in SSEP. Southside students in grades 6-12 competed district wide with more than 200 cardinals for the chance to send their experiment to space.
The Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) was launched in June 2010 by the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education (NCESSE) in strategic partnership with NanoRacks, LLC. The Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) is designed to inspire and engage America’s next generation of scientists and engineers, and it is accomplished by providing each participating community their own very real Space Program.
