1_texas independence elemFirst, mark your calendars for March 19th from 9am – 2pm and Cowboy Up for a whole bunch of events honoring our great state of Texas at our first ever Texas Celebration Festival. We will have Texas-sized animals, like cattle and sheep for kids to see up close,Texas Parks and Wildlife, the San Antonio Museum of Art, other entertainment. Plus, we will have an old-fashioned chuck wagon, rope making, and so much more! It will be at the Early College High School Campus on Highway 281 next to Southside High School.

In the meantime, Southside ISD celebrated Texas Independence Day and campuses continue to honor our state’s history with different events throughout the month of March. Freedom Elementary Kindergarten practiced saying the pledge and talked about the flag and its colors. Each campus, in its unique way, supported the district initiative to celebrate Texas Independence. Some students wrote a poem about Texas Independence with an illustration, other watched videos about the Alamo.  A class of 2nd graders talked about leadership roles in government.  They learned about Governor Greg Abbott and his leadership roles in Texas.  Some campus announcements are mentioning a moment in history, some wrote essays or shorts stories. Southside Cardinals are soaring with Texas Pride.
