UNICEF Kid Power Recognizes Menchaca Counselor for International Women’s Day

March 1, 2021 by rebecca herrera

UNICEF Kid Power recognizes Women Educators for International Women’s Day annually by special invitation. For the second year, Dr. Melanie Morgan, has been invited and is being recognized as a UNICEF Kid Power woman educator who helps to empower students to help save lives!

Last year’s recognition of Dr. Morgan highlighted how she taught and encouraged the next generation that they can make a difference no matter how young they are. UNICEF recognized her leadership and ability to serve as a guiding light to so many kids.

On March 14th, Dr. Morgan will be recognized for the role she continues to play in teaching children to save lives. As a way to assist children worldwide, Dr. Morgan uses features of UNICEF Kid Power in counseling with students. As each resource is used, virtual coins are given and students can redeem them for Ready-to-Use-Therapeutic Food referred to as miracle food that is used to treat and save the lives of severely malnourished children around the globe. There is also a local impact, too, so it gives meals to families locally, plants trees, and provides health care services. It shows kids what they are capable of and even how they can solve giant global problems like starvation. Dr. Morgan helps kids see that they have the power to make a positive difference. We’re honored to have Dr. Morgan at Menchaca Early Childhood Center.

March Message from Principal Herrera

March 1, 2021 by rebecca herrera

Dear Menchaca Families,

It is hard to believe it is almost Spring Break – a week when we will get to enjoy a bit of time to rest, recharge, and enjoy some family time together after just experiencing “Snowmageddon” where many of us were without electricity and water. We hope you’ll enjoy some of our activities for Spring Break that we share as we love that this gives our scholars a chance to enjoy some special time just being kids!

When we return on March 15th, it is back to work to finish this year strong! We have much to do and learn and, as always, your involvement is appreciated. I think you’d agree that Menchaca ECC is special because of our people – students, parents, and staff. Every day our teachers and staff work together to create a school that is focused on play-based learning academics, and social-emotional learning. We do this because we believe that these are strong skills and a recipe for success and happiness.

People often notice the connected feeling of our school: our school climate. This evidence all points to our focus on mindset, compassion, and citizenship. Our scholars impress us every day as they exhibit safety, respect, and responsibility. Thank you for allowing your scholars to be a part of our Menchaca family.

For the Children,

Mrs. Rebecca Delgado-Herrera
