Rey Feo Brings the Force to Freedom
San Antonio Fiesta’s Rey Feo paid a visit to Freedom this week. The students were very excited, and a bit nervous, to see that Darth Vader also made the trip! Vader tried to turn the Freedom students to the Dark Side, but Rey Feo came to the rescue and sent Darth Vader away in defeat! Students always enjoy the visits from Fiesta’s Rey Feo. This year was an extra-special treat!
Dr. Seuss Math, Literacy & Science Family Night
Freedom held it’s annual Dr. Seuss Family Night on Thursday, March 2nd, which happens to be Dr. Seuss’ birthday! The wonderful 2nd grade music students kicked off the night with a fantastic show as they performed, “A Seussical Musical” , under the direction of Music teacher, Frank Villarreal. After the show, students and parents made their way to the gym where each grade level had Dr. Seuss-themed activities planned for the visiting students and families. We had a great turnout! Over 300 people were able to attend this fun-filled event. Each visitor was treated to Dr. Seuss-themed snacks, as well.

Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart is a yearly event coordinated by Coach Mendez and Coach Vaquera. It is an event that helps the American Heart Association (AHA). This year’s event was held on February 16th, and 17th, during specials. We had quite a few students participate this year. Students will continue to collect donations, which are due on March 24, the Friday after Spring Break.
To date, the students have raised $410.00, and the amount continues to rise. This year’s goal is to raise $1500.00 for the AHA. The Coaches are confident that Freedom students will surpass this goal. This is the 34th year that Coach Mendez has coordinated this event, and Coach Vaquera now helps Coach Mendez organize the event which she participated in as a student at Losoya Intermediate, years ago! A huge thank you to all the students who jumped this year!
