Children’s Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screenings

February 11, 2021 by rsantos

FOR HEARING AND VISION:

Parents of students enrolled in grades PK, KG, 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grades who are attending school virtually will need to be informed that due to the pandemic, the school nurses are not going to be able to complete mass screenings for hearing and vision like they usually do every year. Due to this change, parents of virtual learners are asked to take their children to their doctor for annual wellness visits to get their hearing and vision checked. If parents do get results from the doctor, they are asked to share this information with their school nurse. Students who attend in person will be screened as usual. Parents who feel that their child has a problem with hearing and/or vision are encouraged to contact their school nurse for assistance and/or guidance.

FOR SPINAL:

Parents of students enrolled in grades 5th, 6th, and 7th grades who are attending school virtually will need to be informed that due to the pandemic, the school nurses are not going to be able to complete mass spinal screenings to check for scoliosis like they usually do every year. Due to this change, parents of virtual learners are asked to take their children to their doctor for annual wellness visits to get spines checked for curvature and growth problems (scoliosis). If parents do get results from the doctor, they are asked to share these results with their school nurse. Students who attend in person will be screened as usual. Parents who feel that their child has a problem with rounded shoulders, uneven hips, or growth are encouraged to contact their school nurse for assistance and/or guidance.
