No stranger to the spotlight, Mr. Robinson has been chosen as this week’s Cardinal Spotlight. Mr. Robinson is our Senior Class Sponsor for the Class of 2020, FIne Arts Department Chair, Theatre Teacher and a familiar “voice” at several Southside High School events. His dedication to our students and community is inspirational. To name a few events, Mr. Robinson has been the MC at our pep rallies, district convocation, virtual graduation, and Homecoming. His work with the UIL One Act Play earned Southside High School the highest score in the district this year. Mr. Robinson, thank you for all you do.

Cardinal Spotlight Week of July 10: Southside High School
This week we nominate Liliana Valle as the High School Cardinal Spotlight teacher! Ms. Valle just completed her first year in education and did so with a positive attitude daily, while also making great relationships with her students and colleagues. Ms. Valle stepped up to help with Cycle 4 Credit Recovery in June and then immediately following that, she chose to help with Cardinal Academy. In only her first year at SHS and as a teacher, Ms. Valle has proven to be extremely dedicated to her students and the success of Southside ISD.
David Baer is a 10th grader who has been working diligently to complete his assigned coursework all summer. Each week David manages to work more and more hours virtually which has helped him to complete a great deal of his coursework with outstanding grades.
Cardinal Spotlight Week of July 3: Southside High School

Clifton Villegas is a teacher at the high school and also operates the print shop. Mr. Villegas and his team of students have been instrumental in assisting the district especially during COVID. A few projects include printing packets, developing signage and yard signs, preparing report cards for mail outs, and producing graduation programs. We are grateful for his support and willingness to go above and beyond to meet our print shop needs.
Richard Mendoza is a 10th grader who has been taking advantage of the virtual summer school opportunity. His dedication to the program exemplifies his commitment to course completion and ultimately meeting graduation requirements. Great Work Richard.
Cardinal Spotlight Week of June 26: Southside High School

SHS would like to nominate the following three ladies for their hard work and dedication to feeding our Cardinal community. This amazing crew arrive to campus in the early morning, prepare meals and provide curbside service, rain or shine, to ensure that our students are receiving nutritious meals all summer long. Thank you ladies, and to our entire cafeteria crew, for your dedication and hard work.
Emma is an ECHS junior and is currently enrolled in 2 summer school courses. She has been working diligently every day and is already more than halfway done with completing both of her courses. She is dedicated to earning these 2 credits so that she can continue to take JROTC, Theatre Arts and Culinary Arts her senior year.
Cardinal Spotlight – Week of June 19: Southside High School

Nephtali Valdez serves as a teacher in our CTE program as our A/V Production and Animation teacher at the high school. Mr. Valdez has spent much of his time recently to help our virtual athletics award ceremony and virtual graduation be a success. Additionally, Mr. Valdez and his students do a great job entertaining the crowd with his work on our jumbotron. Thank you, Mr. Valdez, for dedicating so much of your time to our students and our community!
We are very proud to announce Kristen Traeger as our Cardinal Spotlight of the week. Kristen served this year as the class of 2020 President and represented SHS very well as a member of our volleyball and basketball teams and National Honor Society. Most recently, Kristen was awarded TSATA Academic All-State Achievement Award as a member of our Athletic Training Program. Kristen is also graduating at the Top 10% of her 2020 class!
