Students in Mrs. Cervantes’s PK-4 class created Menchaca Early Childhood Center’s very first Donut Shop in the outdoor learning area! Outdoor learning environments offer students opportunities to explore and learn. Much of what students do in the classroom can be easily translated to the outdoor environment. This can be done by incorporating safety, design, opportunities for inquiry, space, and accessibility to an outdoor learning space. We love that MECC students have this opportunity!

Little Chefs Healthy Cooking Enrichment Club
Little Chefs Cooking Club held its final club meeting of the 2022-2023 school year on March 7th. Each chef made their own homemade chocolate chip and M&M cake cookies!
The Little Chefs Cooking Club allowed students to learn about, explore, make, and taste healthy nutritious snacks that are easy for students to make. The purpose of the Little Chefs Cooking Club was to allow students to learn about keeping themselves healthy and ways to make nutritious snacks that fuel their bodies. When they are eating properly, students can perform better in school, are more alert, have more energy, and can also teach their families how to prepare healthy snacks.
Thank you, Nurse Heather Siebert, for helping these students learn how to measure, clean, cook, follow healthy recipes, and most importantly how to be safe when doing it!

PK-4 Classes Visit the San Antonio Zoo During a Recent Animal Unit
Students in the monolingual PK-4 classes enjoyed nice cool weather and a wonderful field trip experience together! Students took a walk on the wild side as they explored the zoo, learned new facts, fed animals, rode the carousel, ate lunch picnic-style, observed animals eating and interacting in their habitats, and enjoyed an experiential learning opportunity!
Classes pictured are Mrs. Esparza, Ms. Ortiz, and Mrs. Olguin’s students.
High School Freshman Serves as Cici the Cardinal Weekly
We love that Cici the Cardinal came to visit all of our PK-3 and PK-4 classes to start their day off great! We are lucky that Southside High School freshman, Marco Martinez III, volunteers every single week to be Cici for Southside ISD’s littlest learners. He wakes up early to come see students before heading to the high school to start his day! Southside Pride!
