October Message from the Principal

October 8, 2021 by melaniemorgan

Menchaca has earned a reputation of academic excellence through the hard work of our students, teachers, parents, and staff.  At Menchaca we believe that it is important for our students to be connected to school through positive relationships and a strong sense of community.  I believe that every student can learn and be successful if provided the right supports and opportunities.  Our teachers and staff are committed to providing all students with an appropriate and challenging educational experience in a respectful environment that fosters learning and growth.

A crucial part of success for students is attendance.  As a parent or guardian it is essential for you to maintain an attitude that “Every Day Counts” for students to be in school and ready to learn each day.  At Menchaca, we will assist in helping parents and families understand the importance of instructional time and school attendance.

Additionally we recognize that family and community support are integral to our success.  Parents/Guardians play the most important roles in a student’s success and I invite you to collaborate with us in your students’ education. When we take the time to strategically plan, forge positive relationships, celebrate our achievements, and continue to build on our successful foundation, we can foster a learning environment where our entire Menchaca and Southside community thrives. Menchaca is a place where exceptional teaching and learning is the norm.

Dear Cardinal Parents and Guardians,

What a fantastic first five weeks we have had. It is clear that everyone was recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.

All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff has been hard at work with your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team continues to register new families, maintain transportation updates, and serve our community. Our hard working and conscientious custodians continue to thoroughly clean our school, classrooms, and more. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students, and promoting high-level learning in a safe and healthy learning environment.

May Message from Principal Herrera

Dear Menchaca Families,

It’s amazing to see that the end of the school year is arriving so quickly after an unprecedented school year. I want to thank you all for the support and patience shown these past 10 months. We had successes and some challenges, yet despite all, we continued the work that has to be done to ensure the safety and educational needs of our students. There are countless people to whom I owe an expression of gratitude and hope that we continue working together in the coming years. An expression of special thanks goes to all the parents who gave selflessly to help their children through an entire school year during a pandemic. Whether you were 100% remote or supporting at home it is because of all of you that made this year possible. Your presence and support make a much stronger working community supporting to achieve the school’s goals and ensuring our students are our top priority. I would also like to thank our hard working and caring faculty and staff who have made a huge difference to our students. Their commitment is outstanding and our kids are the beneficiaries. Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences for our kids and knowing that education is about wonder and fostering curiosity, along with development of social skills so needed to succeed. For these, and a million other things, we are truly grateful.

In closing, I take this opportunity to congratulate our kindergarten graduates of Menchaca Early Childhood Center! I wish you all a very happy, safe, and enjoyable summer and a smooth transition to elementary school. Please be sure to take time as a family to talk, play, and READ together.

For my pre-kindergarten graduates moving up to kindergarten – I look forward to seeing you at the end of July. Have a happy and safe summer and we can’t wait to see you again in the fall for the best year yet!

April Message from Principal Herrera

April 1, 2021 by melaniemorgan

Welcome spring and our scholars who have returned to face-to-face instruction!

It is our passion here at Menchaca ECC to help each one of our scholars succeed. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each scholar, both academically and socially. Our professional and caring staff provides rigorous and relevant learning with a primary focus on relationships. We believe every scholar is capable of rising above any circumstances and situations in order to reach the highest level of their potential. That’s why we say Menchaca is where we are Molding Every New Cardinal into a Happy Amazing Caring Achiever. It may be spring, but we still have a lot of time before the end of the year. Families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play a part in helping our scholars develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we can make a positive difference. A strong partnership between home and school fosters greater success for our children. We still have 2 more months of school and we’re not stopping now!

We look forward to continuing to see the growth in each and every one of our cardinals!

Warmly,

Rebecca Delgado-Herrera

March Message from Principal Herrera

March 1, 2021 by rebecca herrera

Dear Menchaca Families,

It is hard to believe it is almost Spring Break – a week when we will get to enjoy a bit of time to rest, recharge, and enjoy some family time together after just experiencing “Snowmageddon” where many of us were without electricity and water. We hope you’ll enjoy some of our activities for Spring Break that we share as we love that this gives our scholars a chance to enjoy some special time just being kids!

When we return on March 15th, it is back to work to finish this year strong! We have much to do and learn and, as always, your involvement is appreciated. I think you’d agree that Menchaca ECC is special because of our people – students, parents, and staff. Every day our teachers and staff work together to create a school that is focused on play-based learning academics, and social-emotional learning. We do this because we believe that these are strong skills and a recipe for success and happiness.

People often notice the connected feeling of our school: our school climate. This evidence all points to our focus on mindset, compassion, and citizenship. Our scholars impress us every day as they exhibit safety, respect, and responsibility. Thank you for allowing your scholars to be a part of our Menchaca family.

For the Children,

Mrs. Rebecca Delgado-Herrera

February Message from Principal Herrera

February 1, 2021 by melaniemorgan

Hello Menchaca Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,

What a great finish to the 1st semester!  I am so amazed by all of the hard work put in by our students, teachers, staff, and parents during this difficult year.  Our teachers put in SO MUCH work learning how to teach both “in-person” and virtual learning, modifying paper-based materials to be uploaded online, creating Google Classrooms, overcoming computer difficulties, and a TON more obstacles during this challenging year.  Having seen much of this “behind the scenes” work on campus, I am truly thankful to the group of teachers and staff we have here at Menchaca. They are amazing.

Also a big THANK YOU to our parents and students for taking on so much during this pandemic and everyone trying their hardest to maintain a sense of normalcy during this “COVID School year”. Our students did a tremendous job figuring out how to log into their Google Classroom sessions from home, navigating through NearPod, overcoming technology issues, and dealing with many other new challenges this year. Our young scholars really did an amazing job!  A big THANK YOU to our virtual learning parents for providing amazing support at home and helping your children through this new online learning adventure.  I know many of us are balancing work, health, and personal challenges in addition to this unique school year and all the changes it brought.  I am confident that our young scholars will come out more resilient than ever before once this year is over and they will gain a sense of gratitude for the “normal” school experience that will soon come again to us all.

The February calendar was sent home.  Please note that on February 1st we will be celebrating the 101st day of school! We will be reading the book 101 Dalmations and completing some fun activities. Students are welcomed to dress like a dalmatian!!! For parents interested in purchasing a student Menchaca shirt, please ask your teacher for an order form. Once filled out and sent with monies, the shirt will be sent home.  For virtual students please call the office @ 210-882-1610, place your order, and drive-through to pick up with the payment. Also, don’t forget that Monday, February 8th is a student holiday.  Staff members in SISD will be learning and preparing for the second semester of academic learning.

I hope everyone has a great month, Go Cardinals!

Mrs. Rebecca Delgado-Herrera
