Little Chefs Healthy Cooking Enrichment Club

March 17, 2023 by melaniemorgan

Little Chefs Cooking Club held its final club meeting of the 2022-2023 school year on March 7th. Each chef made their own homemade chocolate chip and M&M cake cookies! 🍪

The Little Chefs Cooking Club allowed students to learn about, explore, make, and taste healthy nutritious snacks that are easy for students to make. The purpose of the Little Chefs Cooking Club was to allow students to learn about keeping themselves healthy and ways to make nutritious snacks that fuel their bodies. When they are eating properly, students can perform better in school, are more alert, have more energy, and can also teach their families how to prepare healthy snacks.

Thank you, Nurse Heather Siebert, for helping these students learn how to measure, clean, cook, follow healthy recipes, and most importantly how to be safe when doing it!

Simple Cooking with Heart for Kids Presentation

October 16, 2022 by melaniemorgan

The American Heart Association has a program called Simple Cooking with Heart for Kids. They offer heart healthy cooking demonstrations with easy recipes for kids to either prepare themselves or help parents prepare. Nurse Heather Siebert brought this opportunity to Menchaca Early Childhood Center families. One item they prepared during the demonstration was a White Bean and Avocado Wrap. You can find the recipe below:

.

The American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark is an easy way to cut through the clutter and find foods that can be part of a healthy dietary pattern. The iconic Heart-Check mark has been on food packages and in the grocery store since 1995. The Heart-Check mark is also helping everyone find heart-healthy recipes they can make at home. Certified recipes have been evaluated by one of the most trusted health organizations to meet specific nutritional requirements.

The American Heart Association Heart-Check Food Certification Program is designed to help consumers make informed choices about the foods they purchase. The nutrition requirements are food-based and intended for healthy people over age two. The Heart-Check program is not a dietary solution for any particular condition or disease. People with medical conditions or dietary restrictions should follow the advice of their healthcare professionals.

You can find Heart-Check Certified recipes HERE.
