Pre-K Student Performs as an Escaramuza at SA Stock Show & Rodeo
Seleste Balderas, a PK-4 student in Mrs. Esparza’s class, is part of an Escaramuza team called, “Las Tejanitas”. Escaramuza is a female horse rider. According to her mom, girls ages 3-7 begin in the “Escaramuza de caballito de Palo” or female rider of a stick horse. They train to ride side-saddle when they get older. Seleste’s team rides their stick horses in choreographed synchronized moves to music. Las Tejanitas had the opportunity to perform at the SA Stock Show & Rodeo this weekend. According to mom, “Escaramuza charra is the only female sport in the Mexican rodeos (charrería).”
