Open Mic Events

Our school was fortunate enough to receive a grant from the Southside Education Foundation for writing. Students were each given a journal and teachers were given a book based on a theme. Students listened to the read aloud then wrote a creative story based on the book/theme. This was followed up with an “Open Mic Event” where students read to each other, staff, and families. So far our 1st and 2nd graders have held their events; they were a big success and students loved sharing their own writing!  Look at our online calendar for the upcoming 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade events.

Fun at the Heritage Fiesta Parade

Our students all participated in our annual Fiesta Parade.  The 1st and 2nd graders made shoebox floats while our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders were the spectators.  We had our first ever Fiesta Court on a float and members of the various groups walked in the parade; The Kindness Crew, Safety Patrol, & Student Leaders.  We even had our custodians in the parade!  Another reason it was so fun is because of the support of our families.  The community really showed up and we thank you!

Guest Readers Visit

In honor of Read Across America week, our students are being treated to “Guest Readers.” Today Superintendent Rolando Ramirez and the Coordinator of Assessment and Evaluation, Cyndie Wineland, visited. Mr. Ramirez read The World Needs Your Voice to Ms. Anguiano’s 1st grade class and Ms. Wineland read Where Oliver Fits to Ms. Hrncir’s 3rd grade class. Thank you for making today extra special and sharing your love of reading!
