On February 9 some of our 5th grade students joined other Southside students for a Science Field Trip to Baumberger Ranch Nature Preserve in Johnson City, Texas. The program is called the Natural Conservation Experience. The purpose of the program is to give students a hands on experience to learn about preserving nature, understand ecosystems, learn about the geographic timeline, and how sedimentary rocks are formed. In the Ecology classroom students learned about different soil types and their ability to retain water and effectiveness. Other things students experienced were how to measure the health of a pond ecosystem, astronomy, the Edwards Aquifer and limestone, natural springs, fossil collecting, and skulls. They even played a game called “Oh dear, oh dear”, a habitat game. For more pictures, visit our Heritage Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SISDHeritageElem
